GDT 6-22 Elder!!!!!!!!

To be fair, he could bounce back at least by next year. Phillies better hope so.

He could but the trends are concerning. The percent of balls outside the zone he's swinging at has been increasing for several years while his contact rate has been sliding. His hard hit % has also been dropping. He could turn it around but this is year one of an 11 year contract and he's a week away from the wrong side of 30.

It is endlessly funny what the Braves are getting out of Arcia for his $ vs what the Phillies are getting out of Turner for his. Perfect microcosm of the two organizations

While true, tons of Braves fans wanted Turner. No one could have seen him being like this. Guess thats what makes AA good/great at his job and why we're armchair GM's.

I can't fathom any modern day team (wanting to contend team) sending out both Castellanos and Schwarber in the corner outfield spots. You may be able to hide one of them out there, but both? Woof. I know Harper was supposed to take Schwarber's spot, but the Phillies didn't account for any possible Harper injury.

Marsh can only do so much in CF.

I was assured their FO was better now but all I see is the same mistakes over and over and lack of player development

Elder has been unreal this year. He’s not fancy but he’s just consistently locating well. It helps extend our window having another good controllable young arm that we didn’t really expect.

His peripherals don't support his ERA but no matter how you look at it, he's been rock solid. xFIP of 3.68 is excellent middle of the rotation, maybe even a number 2 starter.

One thing I've liked seeing is his EVs going down. He had an average EV of over 92 in April and it's down under 90 now.

Elder has been more than anyone could have hoped for and has saved our rotation with the injuries.

The Mets are 7 GB in the wild card race. It’s going to be fun watching them implode this summer.

The best thing that happened to the Braves was when Cohen bought the team he decided to buy a title instead of rebuild.

Just imagine what the Mets could be now if they would have traded Conforto, DeGrom, Thor and wheeler etc for prospects. Not traded for Lindor, Baez and others. They could have a number one farm system now and an owner willing to spend unlimited money to fill holes.

Tried to buy a title

The thing with Elder is that he is 5th in baseball with a 57% groundball rate. That's going to help him outpitch his FIP. In fact his peripherals right now are really similar to Soroka's 2019 season.

Snit should just have the team meeting in AZ pre scheduled for next season. Pretty sure we won 14 in a row last year after that too

I was listening to some of the post game on Atlanta radio and one of them made a funny point - when talking about the rotation at the beginning of the year you might have said “well, we got a bonus with Elder being able to make a few spot starts and not cost us any games” to talking about the rotation today - you might start with, “Ok, we have Elder, and then … “

No matter what happens for him the rest of the season, Elder absolutely saved the Braves bacon in the first half this year. The team is 11-4 in his starts. He has been getting excellent results, even if it's probably unsustainable long term.

Turner is having a little bad luck in the BABIP department, at least when compared to his career average. But even if you were give him better luck, his OPS is likely only around .700-.750 right now. Considering where he plays half his games, that isn't very encouraging. I think it's rather clear his days of being an elite SS are gone. Phillies better hope he can at least give them average offensive production and maintain his defensive prowess. That would keep him around a 2-3 WAR player and at least be playable.

This is exactly why I was okay with AA walking away from Dansby. Giving 7 years to an almost 30 year SS isn't a great idea. Giving an 11 year contract was just insane.
