GDT 6/26/25: Braves @ Mets: Win The Series Holmes

I'd rather AA not waste any trade pieces unless it's to help for next year. This year is sunk. Albies option at 7 million is a no brainer to pick up but he needs to bat 9th and if you can dump Harris then do it and try to trade for Buxton or Duran from Boston.

Is there a historical precedent for an offense tanking like this, going from historically great to bottom 3rd in the league within a span of 2 seasons? With the same core players, none of which are at the age where they should decline considerably?

I wouldn't say it's inexplicable, but the extent is pretty baffling.

People will roll their eyes, but there is no reason why Morton isn’t a Brave right now. He would cost nothing and fill a need. That’s if AA is serious about not selling of course.

one has to wonder if proper load management could help some of these bigger guys or surgically repaired guys. Nah. Sharpie twit don’t have time to figure that out.

I've been thinking about Ozzie's wrist, and wouldn't it only affect left or right side?

ETA... what wrist was it? Ozzie is down vs rhp, but not anywhere like he is vs lhp.

It was his left wrist that he broke.

I'm not sure how each hand affects each side on switch hitters. But I can tell you that it took over a year for Freeman to regain all the strength in his wrist after he broke his in 2017. His power was off significantly the following year in 2018. And not that it matters a ton, but Freeman broke his wrist at the same age (28) that Ozzie and Riley broke theirs.

The weird thing about Riley is that his walk rate has plummeted and his K rate has skyrocketed. His power hasn’t suffered that much.

Ozuna last 30 games: .612 ops
Riley last 30: .737 ops
Murphy last 30: .603 ops
Ozzie last 30: .618 ops
Harris last 30: .504 ops
Allen last 30: .491 ops
Verdugo last 30: .564 ops
White last 30: .489 ops

There are no words
I'm not exactly sure what hitting coaches do at the MLB level, but they have to be the ones responsible for addressing things like this. If not, why does the profession exist?

FG currently has the playoff odds at 26%, which seems like a decent enough number to avoid punting the season.

However, those odds still have the Braves projected as the 2nd best team in baseball for the rest of the season. I think we all understand that no Sale, Lopez or AJSS in the rotation for the rest of 2025, the complete backslide by Albies and Harris, and the presence of zero MLB depth options at SS, LF, 2B and CF means this team is most certainly not a top 10 team in MLB much less top 2-3.

AA obviously has a few more weeks to make a decision, but it's looking more and more like selling the rental players will be the move at the deadline.

Meanwhile, Seitzer has the Mariners as one of the best hitting teams in baseball based on OPS+, and Cal Raleigh challenging Judge's AL HR record.

No idea what happened around last May, but these guys can't hit since then. I realize the injuries last year, but they weren't hitting before they got injured.
