GDT 6/28/23: Braves @ Twinkies - Powerful Ass Lineup for Allard

Marlins win again. Guess we'll have to beat them ourselves.

It's almost impressive. They typically blow out a team once every two weeks, but otherwise, win every game 3-1 or 4-2. And that's not a shot at them... a win is a win. I hope Atlanta can stay hot and smack them in the mouth.

Malloy says hello from Detroit

AA will make a move if it is a difference maker for our team. Grissom is blocked by Ozzie, Arcia, and Riley. Unless they plan to move him to LF, where is is blocked next season by Rosario and Ozuna, there is not a place for him other than back up IF. He is a luxury, not a difference maker

In agree with the overall point, but comparing Malloy with Grissom, who has established MLB success, is a little silly. Prospects are always a crapshoot, but at least Griss is for sure a decent to good bat and can play a solid 2B.

Not sure they are difference makers anymore. Also Max has a player option that the Mets can’t eat. So we would be on hook if he calls that option. And he will.

Justin Verlander won the Cy Young award last year. lol he's a massive difference-maker, a slow start on a very ****ty team be damned.

RD...
Atlanta +117
Miami 0
Philly -7
NYM -18
Washington -62

To be fair, the Marlins have been very good in the RD category since the slow start. But they're still not on the same playing field as Atlanta, even if they win this series. They may be there in a couple years though.

When you are 40, what you did last year means nothing. He could turn into Morton any day now. I wouldn’t trust him if his cost was too high.

Weird they haven’t announced a starter yet. If it was Soroka, then they knew that several days ago and could have announced it then. Makes me wonder if they are going to call up another pen guy and try to do a pen game today.

Turning into Morton would be a pretty damn good deal. But also, it means plenty... his stuff last year was great. It would have to deteriorate a ton for him to suddenly be ass.

First ballot hall of famers, both of them.

Yeah, I think Cohen is going to tear it down soon and would probably make a deal and eat salary for maybe three good prospects. He also said ultimately he wants the team to be home grown.

Meanwhile, coming to a juggernaut for a shot at one more ring would probably feel pretty good to those guys. WeÂ’d be well-suited to give them a skipped start here or there as a nod to their advancing age.

But I think both of them have enough left in the tank to help us win a championship.

I'd be shocked to see the Mets trade either to the Braves, but I would be comfortable dealing for either. I have specific interest in Scherzer though. Fried-Strider-Scherzer/Verlander would be a three-headed monster.

There is no chance the Mets trade anybody to the Braves to help us out. Not unless we severely overpaid which AA isn’t gonna do either to help them out.

The Braves are not trading for anyone with a player's option. Not at 35+ million.. Both Max and Justin have player options at the end of their deals. The Mets can't eat that money for us. So we are NOT trading for either of those guys regardless if you think they are still good or not.

Personally, I hope the Mets hang on the both of them. This is the second season that Max has not been his vintage self, plus the playoffs the season before with the Dodgers. Verlander was dominant last year but has been very meh this season. Granted, that injury earlier in the year seemed to put him behind a good bit and has messed with his mechanics. I'd be more comfortable with him than Scherzer. Besides, he seems more like a guy that can help out Strider going forward.

After this season, Morton has to make the decision to retire or continue again. Braves carry the $20m option on him. I don't see them not bringing him back if he decides he wants to keep playing. But IF the Mets traded Verlander to us, they'd have to pay down much of what is owed before the option to similar to what Morton is making.

Verlander's velocity is down and his movement is down about 2 inches on his fastball. As such his K-rate is down, his walks are up, and he's giving up homers in bunches. It's pretty clear his decline mode has finally arrived. To his credit, he's still useful pitcher, but he's no longer an ace.

Just need to get him back on an analytics minded team.
