GDT 6/8: Strider, Brooms, and a Shovel of Dirt: Throw it Again

I'm not sure Buck could do anything about tonight, but he made some pretty rough decisions the first two games. Snit has been massacred on here for less.

The Mets came in on a 3 game losing streak. Their pen was already on half empty. Our offense simply used them as a punching bag in the gym. Their entire staff tbh.

It really was death by 1000 cuts. If you’re a Mets fan you probably saw that trainwreck on slow motion and knew it was happening the minute they scored 8 on strider.

The Braves have tied their season high of being 14 games over .500. They were last there at 25-11 and have gone 13-13 against Boston, Toronto, Texas, Seattle, Dodgers, Philadelphia, Athletics, Diamondbacks, and the Mets.

Atlanta will see:

Josiah Gray
MacKenzie Gore
Trevor Williams
TBA
Reese Olson
Michael Lorenzen
Kyle Freeland
Dinelson Lamet
Connor Seabold
Chase Anderson

the next 10 games. It's time to create space with Miami.

What a silly ****ing game. Got to love that Strider got his **** wrecked. Gave up 8 runs, and we won 13-10. With 5 homers. Got to freaking love it.

Pitching is very concerning. We all know that outscoring everyone in lieu of awful pitching is not a sustainable model.

That was amazing! However, hard not to be a little worried about Strider at this point... and I'm king of the "he's fine" club... but I dunno... the velocity drop was obvious today

I think Mets just are still in his head tbh.

He did throw.some good pitches that they still were babiping.

I'm not sure if this is the wine talking or the enjoyment of the game tonight but I'll say this on Arcia:

He's going to regress. Dude's BABIP is 80 points over his career norms. Regression is inevitable.

That said, the thing that has surprised me the most is that his defense seems to have settled in as a little above average. If he can play above average defense he'll hit enough to be okay at SS.

I don't think he'll end the season with numbers to write home about but as long as his defense holds, his bat should be enough to play.

He's no star and could become unplayable if his defense collapses but so long as his defense at SS stays as is, he's okay.

Mets fans aren’t taking this very well

In his postgame interview, Buck was really chafed about the non call on the check swing to Arcia one pitch prior to his 9th inning home run. He has a point but, that said, it sucks to be the Mets.

AA traded a nothing burger relief pitcher for Arcia.

Arcia was allowed to develop for 2 years and was a very valuable backup player.

AA let’s Dansby walk and doesn’t sign or trade for a SS

AA makes the very controversial decision to give Arcia the starting SS job despite strong springs from Grissom and Shewmake

AA signs Arcia to an absurd extension before the season starts

Arcia’s .379 wOBA ranks second among MLB SS and he’s 84th percentile in OOA

This is a MASTER CLASS in roster building.

I'm not sure how well he can hold up as a starter for an entire season. We'll see.

What a loser. What did he have to say about the obvious missed call to Ozuna the plate appearances before?

Was he chafed about strike 3 to Ozuna?

I noticed he didn't mention that which is hardly surprising. In hindsight, the cost of the missed call to Ozuna was a single base while the one to Arcia was a home run. It's human nature to give a lot more weight to the calls that don't go your way vs. the ones that do.

I can take bad calls as long as the bad calls are evenly distributed amongst both sides. The Mets got a terrible call on the Ozuna AB. They couldn't capitalize. The Braves got a bad call with Arcia. They capitalized on it. The opportunity was balanced. Balanced opportunity is what's important.
