Let's do some sweeping.

Laird has a sore oblique according to DOB, so he wasn't able to go today anyway. Fredi also said he doesn't want to push him given that and Gattis already being out too. Plus there is an off day Thursday.

That said, I'd continue to start Bethancourt anyway personally, esp. against teams with some speed that steal bases.

I wonder if Matt Kennelly would get a callup is Laird had to go to the DL. That would be cool.

While Gattis is on the shelf (hopefully just 2-3 weeks), CB needs as much playing time as possible.

I agree given how well he's done so far, he can potentially completely shut down a team's running game. Plus his pitch framing is much better than Laird who's among the worst pitch framers in MLB. Laird also doesn't provide any power or much offense at all usually, so Bethancourt won't need to hit much to be an upgrade to him in that area either.

That said, Gattis being out is a huge loss but we've been able to win without him thus far. But I do believe Philly and the Mets have truly gift-wrapped some games for us making it easier than usual. Plus not facing their better pitchers (no Hamels, Lee or Burnett vs Philly nor facing Gee or Niese vs the Mets) doesn't hurt either.

I'm fine with starting CB until Gattis returns.

Has anyone tried to run on him, he's got a CANNON.

Better question is next year.

Trade Gattis for some pitching?

I kid, sorta, but a CB/Gattis duo is intriguing.

Yeah maybe we can convince MLB to let us have Gattis only bat and CB only play defense.

If you combined the two you'd have the perfect catcher, or close anyway.

But if I had to choose, I'll take Gattis over CB any day. I like CB's arm and it's nice against teams that steal a lot. But otherwise you'd want Gattis because his bat is so good and his defense at catcher isn't bad either.

Yeah. Assuming no lingering long term health issues that affect his power, Gattis' bat is more valuable than Bethancourt's glove.

You weren't supposed to make the GDT, someone else was. Someone different was making the game thread every game during this winning streak. Now you've jinxed us. Thanks a lot.

It's been really refreshing to see BJ Upton in the leadoff spot as of lately. His numbers aren't "great" (as they never seem to be), but they've been very solid:
(8-30, .267 AVG, .313 OBP, 1 2B, 1 3B, 2 RBIs, 2 BB, 2 Steals, 8 Ks). The Strikeouts are just going to happen with the guy but I'm glad he's at least doing something and by no means hurting us.

In what world is a .313 OBP "very solid", especially out of the leadoff slot? Batting BJ and Simmons 1-2 is a terrible idea.

I was afraid TLS was going to scuffle as soon as he was moved into the leadoff slot and then forever be buried in the 7 spot of the lineup. My fears came true, and now the clear choice for leadoff is hitting behind guys like BJ and Simmons.

Ha that's funny.

Now people want to adhere to the "standards?"

Have you seen the crap we've gotten out of the leadoff spot? Besides a great month or so from Jason, we've gotten turds. You might want to check your thinking there. I'd still go Jason, JUP, Freeman, Gattis*, CJoh, LaStella, CJoh, BJ, Simmons... but, we've gotten a good bit of work from BJ. Also, 7-1 is dope.
