GDT 7/13/22: Braves vs Mets - Lefties and Defense

Braves are 6th in fWAR among position players and 1st in fWAR among pitchers. This team is legit.

amazing.

Pitching had that 6 man rotation so we have a lot of negative war guys that started early. Had significant issues with Jansen and Maztek. McHugh out for a while.
Hitting-LF, DH and 2B have been issues. Acuna not playing every day and having some issues.

Team still has upside IMO.

Tell me again why the Braves need another starting pitcher in the offseason?

Because Morton may retire or move on, Soroka's health is not a sure thing, and Anderson and Strider will have a few bumps along the way in their early MLB years.

Also, Muller may have to be used along with some of the filler guys to acquire a bat (whether that's LF or SS in the event that Dansby or one of the other big free agents don't sign with the Braves).

Anderson sucks. Morton is old. Still iffy on Strider going 150+ innings with 2 pitches.

Anderson is at least a legitimate starting pitcher even if for the back end of the rotation.

Morton is a stud.

Strider will take a vacation at some point this year or we will move to 6 man with Soroka/Muller.

If this board truly believes in fWAR, they should just admit you were right. The staff is the best in mlb.

but to say we don't need to keep adding to it is crazy. The Mutts staff took them to the world series and then it completely fell off the rails. You always have pitching depth going into a new season.

Yeah - My tense was wrong in the sentence. I reserve the right to believe that we need an additional starter this offseason.

But we definitely didn't need one this past offseason.

Rotation itself is only 6th best according to fWAR. Still room for improvement.

We decided to give the rest of the league a chance at having the best rotation in baseball by throwing games early in the year.

We are a generous team.

I am concerned about Anderson's velocity. If he loses anymore on the fastball he might not be able to stick in the rotation. His average fastball velocity dropped under 94 this year. If it drops under 93 he's going to have serious issues. His changeup comes in at 88. He has to maintain or improve his velocity to have any chance at sticking in the rotation.

He had some 'tired arm' early in the year but his last 10 games he is over 94 with the last six games all having average over 94.

Had they added a starter, it most likely woulda come at the cost of not adding a reliever. AA did it just right. We #1....

In pitching fWAR in July haha

Adding Jansen was clearly the right allocation of resources.

Imagine a world of Grienke and no Jansen.

OOOOOOOF
