GDT 7/24/21: Braves @ Phillies - SJ24 to the bench

I've got to admit - My engagement level goes up a little when a position player comes in.

This is of course as my engagement level is low because the game is pretty much in hand one way or another.

My engagement level is determined by if the Braves are sucking or not

You're probably right about this but if it does happen few and far in between then couldn't an argument be made that it adds a certain enjoyment factor in an otherwise blowout game?

I don't enjoy it, but I'm more of a traditionalist when it comes to this and realize I may be a dinosaur. But I will say this, those--like LaRussa--who complain about violation of the unwritten rules when a position player is pitching can take a hike. When a position player is pitching, the game has become slow-pitch softball and unwritten rules of baseball are put on the shelf.

Exactly.

This is quite possibly the first logically sound post you’ve ever made here. I’ve bookmarked it for posterity.

it is a simple fix. Get away from the analytics a bit. Stop being afraid of third-time through a lineup. Condition these starters to go seven problem fixes itself.

Yup, so simple it’s exactly the opposite direction all the most successful teams are going. Brilliant!

Teams are trying to win games bro

We won games for 15 years at a clip better than anybody else using the philosophy I am talking about. So nope. Try again. You'll never convince me that the new science of today's baseball is the better way, Bullpens are overworked and crap benches are short because there are too many pitchers on rosters. There should be no more than 10 on a roster at any time. I know my way is the better way.

What other teams had 3 HOF starting pitchers, a HOF 3B, and a should be HOF CF?

This Braves team doesn't have 4-5 HOF players on it, so using analytics is the way to go. The Rays should not even be a factor with their current talent level in the bigs, but look where they've been in the last few years because they are smarter than everyone else.

So while the rest of baseball gets smarter, you want the Braves to stay in the year 1996? With all of the technology available, using SP TTO is a terrible route to go. Hitters are smarter because of this technology. Your dinosaur views would lead the Braves back into the 2014-2017 era.

The problem is your way relies too much on a pen that iIs just not very good or at least not consistent. I wouldn't continue to put the weakest part of my team on display.

Things change and max effort starters with the high 4 seam risers can't do what you want starters to do. And if they don't pitch that way then they will get crushed by the hitters who subscribe to launch angle. So try again.

Surely you're not seriously using an unmitigated dynasty that has never been approached in any professional sport as your measuring stick, particularly when the athletes are bigger, stronger, and faster across the board and the relevant information, access to it, and ability to understand what it means completely dwarfs what's ever been available.

There's never been a more amazing automobile than a Trans Am or driver than The Bandit either, right?

Really sorry, but statements like "you'll never convince me" and "I know my way is the better way" are things you expect from people whose understanding of the world comes from Facebook and Twitter.

*amn those idiots who have lied for all these years about the world not being flat and that we landed on the moon - LOCK 'EM UP TRUMP!!!

Well, I guess if everyone agreed to do it, then most of the runs would be scored in the middle innings of the game and it would be even. As soon as some team stops doing it, it stops working. (which is what has happened in a lot of games)

Don't draw an analogy between politics and baseball. They are two totally different things particularlly for me

The analogy is that refusing to change is a problem with most things in life.

I am funny that way, I don't change things such as opinions or outlooks that I don't think need changing. Furthermore, I could care less what others think of me it really doesn't matter.

That's fine. But sports evolve and the the most successful teams in baseball right now think differently about how to use their pitching. There is a reason for that.
