GDT: 7/27 Braves @ Rays

Anderson is probably up soon.

Rotation is a hot mess after Soroka and Fried.

You'd hope that, if it's any of those things, the Braves would place him on the 45-day and get him the help he needs. Otherwise, it's a pretty trash move.

It's definitely ... extremely curious, to say the least. I have to assume that it's not—or not only—physical illness, injury, mental illness, and/or drug abuse, and something more along the lines of deep, potentially unresolvable disagreements regarding how he's pitching, preparing to pitch, et cetera.

Now watch the Rays pick him up and totally turn him around ...

I’m thinking it’s this. Most likely words were exchanged during or after the game and this has been long simmering (most likely back to the arbitration fiasco). The team was probably looking for a good opportunity to move on, and he has next to no value at this point so we couldn’t even look to trade him.
 
I guess flat out dogging it to collect checks is another possibility.

Snitker seemed to not have much interest in theorizing why his velo being down.

You don't DFA in this instance unless you're tired of someone's ****.
 
You have to assume the DFA is -- at least in part -- about personality conflicts or coachability. Not to say it isn't stuff-related as well -- you might be willing to put up with mule-headedness from a guy with Folty's 2018 stuff, but not from a guy with Folty's 2020 stuff.
 
could be Tucker Davidson over Anderson. Or they give Touki a start since hes stretched out a little.

Honestly think they've just had enough of the *hitty attitude, seeming lack of effort, and DEFINITE lack of urgency.

He kept trying to blow the lack of velo off after his tune-up - "I'm not worried, I'm where I need to be, the fastball's fine." I think this is their way of telling him "If you're hurt or sick, tell somebody - otherwise we just have to assume you don't give a *hit and we've got other guys that do to use your roster spot on."

Can use Chacin and Tomlin next time through to take Newk AND Folty's turns - at that point you're past the 7 day cutoff and could call both up. Certainly think they'd even rather see Wilson's straight fastball at 96 than Folty's at 89.
