GDT: 7/27 Braves @ Rays

I’m sure he’s heart broken, but that doesn’t mean he disagrees with the move.

Not suggesting that. More adding a tiny bit more credence to the idea that—not unlike Gausman last year—the FO has a coaching plan for guys, and doesn't hesitate to jettison players who don't go along with it, even if they still have value/potential/&c.

Snitker doesn't seem thrilled about the move, tbh.

Kinda thought the opposite - didn't seem overly concerned to me. More like "we've seen this movie before, and apparently he didn't learn anything".

Nope, sorry. I am an expert at reading Snitker's mind ... and, more importantly, his heart.

I’ve always thought he should have been traded after the 2018 season. I felt like that was the best Folty we would ever see, with the way he has always been mentally.

....in saying that...I didn’t think he would drop THIS low so quickly. I thought he would just go back to being a decent pitcher with flashes of greatness.

I hope it isn’t drugs, but man he’s lost ALOT of bulk, which is the exact opposite of what a guy his age does. Did not think Gohora and Folty would both be off the Braves by 2020. That’s a TON of wasted talent. I thought Gohora would be a strong #2 and Folty (even as a head case), could hold down the #4 or #5 spot no problem.

maybe Gohara shouldve given Folty half of his rice and beans.

I suspect we will hear the other half of the reason Folty was DFAd soon. There is simply no baseball-only reason to dump a guy this soon.

Hope so, but with this group of writers covering the team, we are going to need a national writer to care enough to get the scoop.

You have to assume the DFA is -- at least in part -- about personality conflicts or coachability. Not to say it isn't stuff-related as well -- you might be willing to put up with mule-headedness from a guy with Folty's 2018 stuff, but not from a guy with Folty's 2020 stuff.

My take as well. He always had the "million dollar arm/ten cent head" vibe and when you add what we on the farm called "bull-headedness" (we had no mules), it makes for a frustrating situation that can become intolerable. If his performance was acceptable, you can go along with it. No one here is in the clubhouse, so we don't know what the rest of the team thought of the guy, but maybe that plays into it as well.

This team really seems disjointed out of the gate. Of course, all of baseball is disjointed so maybe that's the norm.
