GDT 7/31/22: Braves vs Diamondbacks - Sweepy Sunday

No way his 5.4% HR/FB is sustainable. He's having a career year but is still pretty mediocre.

He’s lucky with that specific measure, but even if that normalized he would still be above average. He gets really good vertical movement on all of his pitches which helps him get above average rates on both topped and under contact. He gets weaker than average contact overall (measured by exit velocity).

Don't think you're using that word correctly, bud. He was a 2.4 war pitcher last year with over twice the HR/FB. Even if his 2022 number regresses some, he' still been a consistent 4.00 FIP pitcher, which is pretty damn solid, especially at his AAV.

I have tried for the life of me to remember but I just can’t….The last time TDA has had a positive impact at the plate.

I consider a 4.00 FIP pitcher pretty mediocre. Valuable, but mediocre pitching is often valuable.

When you get dominated like this by Scherzer, you tip your cap. When you get dominated by Kelly, you're helping him out a lot.

Bruh…he’s been good.

K well his FIP this year is 3.21 which is very good (and even lower now). So your 4.00 comment is pretty useless.

It was in response to someone else. Dude is having a career year but has gotten pretty lucky too. He's not a dominant pitcher.

He’s been very good this year. You’ve been under selling him and you know it. And I know you were responding to someone else but you missed the point

He's had a better-than-average FIP the last three years, with this year's number being well above-average. That's just not what the word "mediocre" means.

But let's use your terms: he'd be a valuable addition to the Braves' rotation depth, especially given his price tag.
