GDT- 8/14/18 ....RETURN OF THE NIGHT OF THE ANIBAL- THIS TIME HE MEANS WAR

I've been saying this for a week, before he hit all these HRs.

Batting a low power guy with a .380 OP 4th while a guy with a .250+ ISO bats lead off is pure stupidity.

OR!!!.... Is it possibly so stupid, that it transcends stupidness and actually gets to the point where it is brilliant?

Ozzie likely shouldn't sit after 5 games where it was looking like he was getting right as he seems to be a rhythm player, but he might not be right given the Sarris article.

(No, he's not a big power hitter, but until recently he's always averaged better exit velocities then Ender, and lately that has not been the case)

Now I wouldn’t call Ozzie sizzling either. I want to say he had one bloop hit yesterday and one hit that should have been just a sac fly.

I just remembered there was one game this weekend and a batted ball came up on him and hit him in the shoulder area, I think he still got the out but shook his arm a lot after the play, it is some food for thought.

Injuries and illness negate any rants of course. We can only react to what we know and twitners history.

I have no problem rotating Culberson around to give guys some time off. Don't forget Albies tweaked his hamstring a little while ago. Giving him a day off wont hurt.

Plugging the current starting 8 and their 2018 numbers into the handy dandy lineup optimizer: https://www.baseballmusings.com/cgi...&Player8=Pitcher&OBA8=.118&Slug8=.132&Model=1

We get the following optimized lineup:

Markakis
Freeman
Albies
Camargo
Acuna
Swanson
Inciarte
Suzuki
Pitcher

When looking at the Top 30 productive lineups, we see a few common themes:

1. Markakis leads off in 21 of them, Freeman in the other 19.
2. Spots 1 and 2 are Markakis or Freeman in all 30.
3. Camargo/Acuna/Albies are 3-5 in all but a few lineups that have Albies batting 8.
4. Swanson/Inciarte/Suzuki are 6-8 in all but a few lineups that have Albies batting 8.

Injecting some reality, we know Freeman is not going to lead off. We also know Camargo is not going to hit 4th. We also can probably reason that Freeman and Markakis are not going to hit back to back. Swanson should be batting 8th.

Therefore, the lineup should be I wouldn't argue too much about swapping Albies and Acuna):

vs RHP
Markakis
Albies
Freeman
Acuna
Suzuki/Flowers
Inciarte
Camargo
Swanson

vs LHP
Markakis
Albies
Freeman
Acuna
Duvall
Camargo
Suzuki/Flowers
Swanson

Why not Acuna 2nd? I think markakis, Acuna, FF would be top flight

Good point.

They should be 1-2

I'd be fine with that, but snit doesn't consider those numbers. He is too "old school" for that, and I don't say that to take shots at anyone old school. I believe being old school is fine just so long as you don't use it as an excuse to stop learning and using advanced stats and other resources available to you. Plus some old dogs cannot learn new tricks.

While i totally get the reasoning for Markakis leading off, I believe they showed a stat the other day that he's in the top 5 in the league in batting average with runners on base. Sure, it's a fluky stat, but it's gotta count for something.

It’s not fluky....

He’s among the leaders in batting average, so it stands to reason he’d hit well with runners on base.
