GDT- 8/14/18 ....RETURN OF THE NIGHT OF THE ANIBAL- THIS TIME HE MEANS WAR

at this point of the season it tells you someting... btw the NL has a winning interleague record which also tells you something...the has AL has 3 teams that are Miami Marlins bad...the NL has one

You can see it in the standings. While the AL has 3 super teams they are mostly trash. NL is super wide open. Braves could easily make the WS this year.

I’ve been saying since July that the AL is really too heavy, but the NL is extremely competitive.

I have often wondered this. The entire AL central is garbage sans Cleveland. AL west sans Houston and they look pedestrian. The east is two good teams and an ok Rays team. I can’t think of teams in the AL like say the Muts who are bad but have the pitching to beat you any given day.

Edit**. Will toss the A’s a bone.

Yeah. A's a game back of Houston. But I think the number of very weak teams in the AL is having some effect in pumping up the records and run differentials of the better teams there. Same phenomenon last year in the NL.

I tried to tell you, you nerd.

Tell me what? That Acuna is a great young player?

Thanks for the hot take Taylor.

Time to go study for that community college test so you can show daddy that B! Get that associates "degree" to hang on the wall at your future tire salesman job!

I gotta admit- it sure is cool to see a top shelf "can't miss number one prospect" actually deliver at the MLB level. It seems like they bust more than not- I said seems like, i didn't look it up...but this is damn nice to see for once.
Just seems like forever since we had our version of Trout/Judge/Soto/Pujohls/Freeman, etc- oh, wait...well, you get my point

The Braves also have a kid named Ozzie Albies who is going to produce 4-5 fWAR as a 21 year old.

Sure, he had his unsustainable hot streak months ago so folks are no longer pimping him to hype level 10 like they are currently with Acuna, but he's another stud that panned out.

Braves can't complain too much. They had Chipper and Andruw play at HOF levels. Heyward played at a superstar level while with the Braves. You see what Freeman is doing although he was never a top rated prospect. Current crop has Albies, Acuna, and Swanson. Albies and Acuna seem destined to be perennial all-stars while Swanson is grading out as a defense first SS. I'd say we are fairing better than most.

in general our farm system has been productive for a very long time...what killed us was having an entire generation of starting pitchers having their careers derailed...Jurrjens, Hansen, Medlen, Beachy, Minor....if a couple of them had held up the story of the past five years would be much different

Or if the next guys in the pipeline weren't Lucas Sims, J.R. Graham and Jason Hursh, etc.

It's almost as if one type of prospect is better to build around than another.

I can't quite put my finger on it though. Could anyone possibly help me figure it out?

yeah, 5 decent-to-good guys were listed, but with the normal thinning out of pitchers, they were never all going to work out. it hurt that the depth behind those guys was non-existent.

They did have two homegrown useful pitchers who weren’t injured when they tore it down.

Wasn’t all about pitching. (It was a lot about pitching)

The pipeline also had Wood and Teheran. So that is a decent yield out of those five.

If we had also had two who stayed healthy out of Jurrjens, Hansen, Medlen, Beachy and Minor we would have been ok.

Say Wood, Teheran, Beachy and Minor plus some veteran to fill out the rotation the past few years.
