GDT 8/17/21: Braves @ Fish - Ynoa Returns

About five games from now, we'll start learning if we're really any good or are just the beneficiaries of substandard competition.

Anderson threw around 75 pitches tonight. Think he starts vs O's this weekend?

Hope so. A Morton-Fried-Anderson-Smyly-Ynoa rotation down the stretch with Touki as the long man would be as good as we could have expected with Soroka out.

Braves held their own out of the all-star break which was a big W as frustrating as it was to alternate wins and losses. This team isn't bad at all.

I'd wait for the Giants series, 2 days off next week.

I think I'd like him to get a warm up game vs O's sorta like ynoa got one vs Marlins. The braves seem to know what they're doing with pitchers right now though, so I'll be ok with whatever they decide

I think the biggest tell on if a team is actually good is if they consistently dominate the bad teams.

At the ASB, the braves trailed the Mets by 4 games. If the giants' score holds up, the braves will lead the Mets by 4.5 games. Pretty amazing shift in a month

Phillies losing 3-1 in the 6th

Mets losing 3-0 7th

Padres about to lose again too

edit: updated Mets score

These guys beat all I have seen. They finish this and it's a modern-day miracle Braves. This team was dead in the water, 7.5 back on 6/16. That's good work.

Awesome outing for Smith. Team has become fun to watch. Ynoa coming back like this is huge for us going forward.

Honestly, after RAJ went down, I was thinking next year. No way we have a shot. Then AA acquired the bats and RR and it seemed to tell the guys we are going for it, gave them confidence...and here we are. They believe now. That's the difference. I believe in them now. We are very good.

Not really. The 1993 Braves were 10 games back on July 22nd and 9.5 back as late as August 1st. They needed 104 wins to win the division. That’s way more impressive than this.

So a fan reaches onto the field of play to make a catch and prevents McCutchen from catching it. Batter should be out. Security escorts the fan away for interference. But as expected, New York says there was no fan interference and is just a foul ball. lol
