GDT 8/17/21: Braves @ Fish - Ynoa Returns

I love that we are taking care of business vs bad teams (knocks on wood). We still have today's game and 3 vs Baltimore in the bad teams category.

WE are going to start a nasty stretch. I'd sign up for 500 23rd through the end of August. Yankees, Giants, Dodgers is not getting us to 95 wins. Then a later stretch @ Giants and @ Padres. One Padres game we are down 1 run in the fifth.

Need to keep making hay now, b/c the sky may be falling 9/2 if we went 3-5.

These guys beat all I have seen. They finish this and it's a modern-day miracle Braves. This team was dead in the water, 7.5 back on 6/16. That's good work.

Maybe I have unrealistic expectations, but that doesn't and didn't seem like all that big a gap.

If you considered the Braves a below .500 team I guess it was unrealistic to expect this good a stretch, but that's not really how I saw them.

The Mets falling apart was totally unsurprising.

Making up 7 games in June? Not that big a deal imo.

You're understating that a bit.

We went 14 innings and got one hit. One GD hit.

I know I can't say GD on the radio, but no one's listening anyway.

In addition to the team's miserable performance that day, the Bumgarner no-no was clearly the low point in the season as per Smyly's performance (4 IP, 5 ER, 3 HR). I swear the Diamondbacks' exit velocities exceeded the sound barrier. Two for the price of one: the crack of the bat and the sonic boom all in one hit. Smyly has pitched much better, but is interesting that Snitker has him on a pretty short leash these days.

What a great night last night. The Braves picked up a game on everyone they needed to. It's unlikely we win the WC, because we'd simply have to play so well the NL East would be won too, but it's crazy to think we are in that race as well at this point.

Maybe on the WC. SD is falling apart... they have arrieta starting today to try and avoid a sweep at the hands of the Rockies

Looks like Frazier left his good bats in Pittsburgh. Odd team. Lots of firepower. Have had some injuries (who hasn't) and some guys have come back to Earth. A team that could do some real damage in the playoffs if the pitching holds up.

Funny how this seems to happen when a guy goes to a new team. But he was obviously hitting over his head and a drop off was expected.

He's not a bad player, but I always found his classification as a possible big-time deadline acquisition a little odd (especially for the Padres). He's a decent complementary player.

Breggy was pretty offensive about it.

It’s one thing to just be quiet, but he met it with some fervor. Whelp!

The thing the press doesn't really like to mention is that Preller's ability to improve the team this year was directly hampered Preller's previous moves but he still got praised for Frazier and given credit for pursuing guys he didn't actually have the money to acquire most likely.

Frazier seemed like an ok incremental move but yeah he's not really an all star I don't believe.
