GDT 8/17/22: Braves vs Mutts - A Third Helping of Revenge

Braves probably ended up with a better chance to win after Stephens gave up 3

Sadly. Diaz's worst appearance of the year (blown save vs. Giants), he gave up four singles and a walk. Braves are not capable of stringing something like that together against him.

Who’s going tomorrow for Fck sake? Who’s getting sent down for Ynoa’s trash ass to come up and we hope he has a career start?

BTW, some of you do annoy me on these game threads (not naming names), but please don’t be like the infamous Mets fan Frank “The Tank” Flemming. I’ve seen a good bit of him the last couple days on Twitter and he’s everything that’s wrong with being a fan. The civil Mets fans can’t stand that guy. Please guys. Don’t be a Braves version of him.

Wow thanks for the PA

Looks like we miss Verlander in the upcoming Astros series, since they are going with a 6 man rotation. We have McCullers, Javier and Urquidy

I'll bet Fried made it very clear he wanted and expected to start. I hope his competitive fire doesn't override common sense. Concussions don't go away quickly.

Still, I'm curious to see how much of the Fried Beast shows up. Could be a pitching duel / game for the ages.

Do we actually know if Fried had a concussion, or was the DL stint just used pre cautionary to get him a breather?

Tarnok looked pretty filthy in his short outing. Be patient with him. Don’t give up on him being a starter just yet.

In nfl, you have to clear concussion protocol to play again. I wonder if mlb has a system in place like that where you have to be tested to enter/return concussion IL

Perhaps the most significant component of the policy involves protocols for return to play. Any player who has been diagnosed with a concussion, regardless of whether he was assigned to the seven-day DL, must follow a specific protocol to return to play. The club must submit a return-to-play form for the player to MLB's medical director to obtain clearance for game participation of any kind (major league, minor league or extended spring training). In that form, the club's head physician must establish:

• all symptoms at rest and with exertion (including baseball-related activities) have cleared
• ImPACT results have returned to baseline
• the club physician, in his or her judgment, feels it is safe for the player to return to competition

The medical director then has the right to request further documentation or consultation with other physicians before providing final clearance. Similar return-to-field criteria will be required for umpires.

Additionally, each club is required to designate an MTBI (mild traumatic brain injury) specialist, who is not one of the club physicians, in its home city.
