GDT 8/18/21: Braves @ Fish - A Shakeup

Seeing some posts that Alec Bohm went to the dugout tunnels in tears after striking out and the camera caught him saying “I can’t ****ing hit”.

An absolutely brutal year for him.

Tomlin's current ERA is 6.85 in 47.1 innings. Little bit more than a small sample size. Over last 15 games, 8.71. 69 hits allowed, 10 home runs. Bake him a cake and put him on a slow train.

Irony of ironies: Tomlin is 4-0.

That last part is an irreplaceable winner to Chip— his W/L record as well as his veteran grit and presence

Yeah, have him stick a fork in a toaster.

Hoping he gets DFA'd when Anderson is back, but seems unlikely. No idea why he's on the team, complete waste of a spot.

I get that Tomlin is essentially a sacrificial lamb and he's being paid 1 million. That is basically free with the minimum rooking at 500K. Probably easier to have him eat innings than churn the roster and start people's clocks.

But it is not fun.

I wouldnt DFA Smith, but he shouldnt be closing anymore. Enough is enough.

Agree. That's message board hyperbole. No way you DFA Smith. Maybe you look at yourself and your team and say why did we pay all this money and give up a pick for Smith, but you don't cut him. We owe him money and he's a useful player. He just shouldn't be the closer, especially vs all RH.

We have enough quad A guys to fill his spot. If they like him coaching so much then tell him to retire and pay him as an assistant coach.

538 has us at 79% for playoffs and 76% for division.

Yeah. I want to say the main differences is that 538 uses actual production on the field so far factored in. Runs scores and runs allowed. Where Fangraphs sticks to expected ZIPS production the rest of the way.

And Braves were upped to 65.9 for the division and 68.7 for the playoffs in general after the Phillies loss.

Also Fangraphs also has a 'season to date' mode when factoring in their odds. Which is basically what 538 does and uses results from this season as the main factor. Using that version they have the Braves at 77 for the playoffs and 73 for the division.

It's beneficial to the Braves that the Phillies player development appears to be terrible. When was the last time they developed a home grown hitting star? Chase Utley? Remember Domonic Brown? Then Scott Kingery? Then Mickey Moniak. Still early but Bohm isn't looking good either.
