GDT 8/18 @ PIT 7:05 ET

Winners focus on the division and settle for the Wild Card if that's how it ends up. They don't focus on the Wild Card and forget about the division.

That is silly. The only thing they are focused on is winning the games they play. Loser focus on other teams, winners focus on winning the next game.

Who said anything about focusing on other teams? You need to read what I said again.

we are either the best team in baseball or the worst

no middle ground

we are awesome btw

I like him there. Part of me wishes that we had someone else capable of doing it, so he could hit lower in a run-producing spot, but he seems pretty comfortable there. As long as guys like CJ and Gattis step it up in the middle, it makes Heyward hitting leadoff that much easier.

I like Jason at leadoff because he's great. My lone lineup tweaks remaining since Fredi is getting closer.

Jason

Justin

Freddie

Gattis

TLS

Johnson

Simmons

P

Bossman

Fredi has made it clear Freddie won't move off 3 or bat 3 lefties ina row even if a murderers row of righties are behind them, which is why Simmons hit 2 yesterday. To fight that I went with BJ as a false leadoff man, hitting 9th he can score runs when he gets on and sets up Jason and Justin with run scoring opportunities.

I'd love to see our four run producers in the top four slots. It's funny how Justin and Freddie are almost statistical twins. Freddie's got a little more OBP (more walks), Justin has an edge in SLG and Ks a bit more, but they're within a sliver of each other in OPS, WRC+, and wOBA.

I think that error in the last Oakland game is going to spell the end for BJ as a regular.

Too bad Fredi can't spell.

This is probably the best lineup to toss out there, especially since the run producers are at the top and could benefit from a position player batting 9th.

The main problem with Fredi sticking any old crappy RHer (whether that be Simmons or Goss or BJ) between Heyward and Freeman is that it doesn't discourage any manager from using a LHed pitcher to face both Heyward and Freeman. If the point of breaking up the LHed hitters is to make the opposing manager think twice about using a LHed pitcher to face both of them (which is obviously the whole point), then you need to use a RHed hitter that is actually dangerous against LHed pitching. Sticking a poor RHed hitter between Heyward and Freeman is actually pretty pointless if it doesn't discourage using a LOOGY for more than 1 batter.

Justin is obviously the most dangerous RHed bat Fredi could stick between Heyward and Freeman (and I would argue that exact Heyward/Justin/Freeman combo should exist somewhere in the top half of the lineup), but CJ has also been death to LHers this year. I know his .300 OBP sucks, but so does the .300 OBP of every other RHed hitter Fredi has tried to use to break up Heyward and Freeman. At least CJ will give the other manager reason to pause before letting a LHed pitcher face the top 3rd of the lineup.

You know which other RHed hitter kills LHers? Gattis. Just saying.

Pretty much just brainstorming here, and I seriously doubt CJ or Gattis would/should ever bat 2nd anyways.

Vs LHP CJ should hit 2nd. That is the one thing the guy does very well. Mash LHP. Vs RHP just put TLS in there. It seems so easy.

Boni is hitting .286 vs tonight's lefty, BJ is hitting .143 against him in 14 AB's. But Boni sits tonight and BJ starts. That's three lefties he has sat him while playing him against righties he has poor numbers, lol. La Stella back to the bench too...

Roger that, Negative Nancy.

We're 7 back in the L column.

I'm a realist.

The Nats have the best record in the NL, it's pretty unlikely we pass them, they're really ****ing good while the WC teams we're chasing minus Stl are vulnerable.

So explain to me the difference between focusing on the division and focusing on the Wild card if it doesn't involve focusing on other teams. Focusing on the division and the wild card is the same thing because your immediate goal every day is to win the next game.
