GDT 8/2 Wright Vs Wrong

Spotrac says arb3 next year but doesnt have a ton of time in the majors.

Let's all remember that time spent on the major league DL counts toward service time.

Yeah, it’s just a question of if he was on the DL, or technically retired since he was completely out of baseball for so long. Not sure if he was still part of the Rockies organization during that time.

So it seems Matzek was first called up mid-2014. He was sent back to AAA early in 2015 and had surgery near the end of the year. In 2016 he started the year on the DL and was outrighted mid season. He was released at the end of 2016 and hadn’t made a major league roster until this year.

From this it seems like he started the year with just over 1 year of service time.

Yup. Cotts Contracts has his service time at 1.019 years. They are pretty accurate with this stuff.

I guess it just depends what type of contract the Braves signed Matzek to. Despite service time, he could qualify for free agency sooner ala Chris Martin.

Matzek currently has a negative FIP. It's -0.33. I wasn't aware that was possible.

It's still way too early to draw conclusions but he's K'd 9 of the 20 batters he's faced and walked 0. It's definitely a strong start to the year.

Shane Bieber is at -0.38 in 14 innings
