GDT: 8/21 The New aPache

Deal official: Workman, Hembree and Cash to Phillies for pitchers Nick Pivetta and Connor Seabold.

The Phillies had to have some pitchers but I’m not sure this helps them that much

#Phillies are getting Brandon Workman and Heath Hembree from the Red Sox. Nick Pivetta is going to Boston in the deal. One other pitcher headed Boston's way, too.

Wonder if this starts a Boston sell-off—though Workman was heading to FA, and Hembree—even though he has an extra year of control—still isn’t much to write home about.

That Devers and Eovaldi deal has some appeal. Schoenfield mentioned Bogaerts as a theoretical target for the Braves, too.

If you'd have told me we'd be in the Phillies bullpen in the third inning of the first game of a series with Nola pitching...? Yeah, I'll take it.

Xander Bogaerts? We gonna sell them Riley and the top-end of the farm?

From the aforementioned article:

The most interesting scenario, however, involves Bogaerts. He's signed to a long-term deal through 2025 with a 2026 option, but as The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal pointed out, Bogaerts has a couple of interesting clauses in his contract. First, he receives full no-trade protection once he reaches seven years of service time, which will happen on Sept. 6. He also can opt out after 2022, and since his deal is considered under market value, at least based on his 2019 season, that's a distinct possibility (unlike Martinez, who has an opt-out after this season, but has struggled early on).

So if the Red Sox are rebuilding for a few years down the road, maybe they try to cash in on Bogaerts. The odds are slim, and even if that is the thinking, such a trade is more likely to happen in the offseason, when every team's prospect pool opens up. Also worth noting is that all the top teams are set at shortstop, although maybe a team like the Braves could flip some of its young pitching and an outfielder like Drew Waters for Bogaerts to play third base. Bottom line: If we do have an active trade deadline, it's probably because Bloom is busy wheeling and dealing.

Pure speculation; but I’d definitely consider cashing in Waters if I’m the Braves.

Was trying to find out why Harper was not in the lineup. Lol...

Bryce Harper is not in the Phillies' lineup Friday.

It's Harper's first day off of the season. Manager Joe Girardi said that Harper is "dog tired and beat up" after playing every game, including both ends of a doubleheader Thursday. Roman Quinn is in right field Friday.
