In fairness, Theo has more money to play with than we probably will until we get new ownership.
Didn't take much money to draft Bryant and Schwarber, trade for Addison Russell or claim Jake Arrietta.
I agree that having more money certainly will continue to work in Chicago's favor, but they've built an impressive core so far through good old fashioned player development that any payroll could afford. Now, they can flex their financial muscle with things like signing Lester this year and going after it next year in FA if they want.
Which has nothing to do with sabremetrics
I'm now imagining Fredi going home tonight, pouring a few glasses of cognac while he contemplates the possibility of wins and losses not being a good way of evaluating pitchers before finally giving up and chastising himself for such silliness and tipping his cap at the Marlins for their performance tonight. (In my imagination, Fredi always wears a cap)

Maybe the Braves will draft in the top 10 for the next four years and have unlimited funds to sign international prospects like the Cubs did from 2011 through 2014.

.530 winning percentage with Atlanta doesn't really fit that narrative. He's not great, but his teams have never underachieved the way Matt Williams's team has this year. Fredi may not elevate his team much, but he also doesn't do a lot to depress the talent on his team.

I want the highest pick so I'm happy to see the team lose. I want all the individual players to do well but it's a lost season at this point. I'm still rooting for guys, but I don't really get why some get upset when we lose? Sometimes losing is good. Being mediocre is a death sentence for a team. Either suck really bad or be really good.
I want the best player we can get in the draft. Don't care about a win in a meaningless season.

I think most overestimated the talent of last year's team. It wasn't good defensively, and there was no consistency on offense. The pitching wasn't good enough to win in the long run.

I'm guessing those still defending Fredi must be heavy drinkers, that's all I got that makes sense. Then again watching Fredi try to manage makes me want to join them in heavy drinking.

The only thing I will say FOR Fredi is that I don't think any manager could win with this team as it is. That said, Fredi is not a great manager to be sure. He'll be on the hot seat for 2016. There better be some improvement next year. There will be changes to the roster I believe for 2016 and he won't have the excuse for any failures on the roster makeup.

If 2017 is the magic year, bring someone in 2016. Get his feet under him to bring in the big 17 season IMO

Yeah, I get that. Completely understand it. Only reason I mention him being here in 2016 is because the extension has already been announced and I'm resigned to him being the Braves manager next year. I would have rather waited until later in the season or after it's over to make a decision on Gonzalez. But, what's done is done. I suppose there is a chance that minds could be changed and there is a new manager next season, but don't hold your breath.
Only thing I would disagree with him being the manager in 2016 doesn't necessarily mean he'll be in the dugout again in 2017. He's essentially been given a "grace period" for this season with the extension. There will be no grace period next year. If there is no improvement, he won't be the Braves manager for 2017. If the Braves are building for SunTrust Park and are truly trying to make the best product possible for that, then Gonzalez will have to prove himself. If not, he won't be.
But again, I wish a decision on Gonzalez would have waited.
