GDT: 8-4-13 Braves at Phillies (Brooms Ready)

I think at this point I'd go ahead and use Varvaro. Warm up Kimbrel if there is trouble.

Anyone else think we're seeing the Phillies crumbling (in big picture terms)? Or to put it another way, have they lived long enough as the hero to see themselves become the villain?

I'm not making guarantees or anything, but it wouldn't surprise me if they weren't competitive again for another decade.

They're going to regret not blowing it up this summer.

Because they're the team Philadelphia deserves, but not the one it needs...

I'd rather not use Kimbrel tonight, but I will say we were in basically this same situation last weekend. Kimbrel saved all three games against St. Louis, and then we didn't see him all week against Colorado. So I see the point of the use-him-when-you-need-him crowd.

Then again, he was saving games against the Cardinals, not the Phillies, and we aren't exactly playing the Rockies tomorrow.

Wow. Fans booing their closer. Attendance down. Crowds filing out in the 8th inning. Warms my heart and couldn't happen to a better fanbase (except maybe Washington).

If we use someone else and they were to blow this game many of you would be complaining that Fredi didn't use Kimbrel. In this park a 3 run lead could evaporate in no time.

Here's what I love about it.

Fredi has Kimbrel and Varvaro warming up in the pen.

If we don't score, Kimbrel comes in. If we do, Varvaro.

So what this says is, Fredi believes Varvar is capable of holding a 4 run lead, but not a 3 run lead.

Of course, that's ridiculous - and we all know it is simply a manager making decisions based on a simple individual statistic. It is so dumb and is the same reason Fredi was quoted as saying "You can't use your closer in a tie game on the road." Pure ignorance.

Just have more confidence in our bullpen lately.

Also, the fact that we don't lose any ground tonight on Washington, where we can cut their head off tomorrow.

Its a no-brainer. The Braves are trying to win as many games now to rest up their guys as soon as possible. Nats lost today so winning tonight is important. Thats why Kimbrel is pitching.
