GDT 8/4/2021 Braves @ Cardinals - Happy BirthdEH Mike Soroka

I think it's the function of the short bench in the current game. It was a roll of the die to a certain extent in determining the proper time to employ Pederson, but he was the last real bullet that we had.

I remember when we used to argue over whether teams should carry 12 pitchers. It wasn't even that long ago!

I really think st louy would have walked Joc if he hit after Duvvy failed. That would have left Void with the bases loaded and then the pitcher, which would have been Smith or Fried..So we did get lucky that Herbie walked and Void got the sac fly..

I do agree once TDA replaces Smith and Rosey replaces the other AA, then we can actually weaponize our bench to make teams pay.

The Pirates finally appear to have someone in Cherington that knows what he's are doing and I would be surprised if they traded Reynolds and if they do, I think it would require a haul that would far exceed our ability to meet. We aren't getting him for Waters/Acuna and a couple of our better pitching prospects. I fully expect the team that lands Reynolds will have to give the Pirates current major league players under similar contractual control as Reynolds. Only one of those we have that's a position player is Riley and they already have Hayes. I think we'd have to add either Anderson or Fried to the package and probably throw in another prospect. Reynolds may be overrated (I have no way of knowing), but he's going to be a hot commodity in the off-season.

God I hope we don't give up Acuna and Fried for Reynolds. I mean maybe just Acuna..

We wouldn't be trading Acuna and I doubt the Pirates would ask. All I'm saying is that the NL Central is a crap division and the Pirates have been doing more things right this year than in the past. They are a few years away, but I'm guessing that if they stay on course, they will be good while they still have reasonable contractual control of Reynolds. These aren't the Huntington-led Pirates.

I really didn't think you meant to put Acuna in the trade scenario. But yes, any central team could win that division with a little more talent and a little luck.. there is no good team in that division.. the Cards look like they have a tough road ahead of them..

The Brewers are good.

So I was thinking more about the 8th and why Twit didn’t pinch hit Joc sooner. And maybe the dude was playing chess here. So if Joc replaces either Duvvy or HerRaideA then louy could have just walked him to load the bases since the go ahead run was already on 3rd. So then that leaves only Smith or Fried as your bench options in a tie game and that is not ideal. It seems twit was right on not using Joc until the pitcher spot in that inning.

Is it possible that someone is coaching this guy or is that an old baseball knowledge thing that twit just knows. There is no way he used RichRod on his ow. In the fifth. That was way too smart of a move for him.[/p]

I think Heredia, Vogt, Pederson was probably the best three hitter possibility they had at their disposal.
