GDT 8/4 Braves (Gausman) @ Mets (Wheeler)

We'd have had a better chance of getting the runner at home if Ender had made the catch. That run should seal the deal seeing that we haven't gotten runner past first base tonight.

The overreaction to Acuna's defensive issues are getting outta hand. He's 20yrs old and learning how to play the game while a big leaguer. He'll be fine, has all the tools to be a premium defender

This. Acuna is still so raw. It's easy to forget because he's so good.

Learn to be a premium defender? Give me an example. I'm not sure I've ever seen anyone learn to be a good defensive outfielder. Angles are not something that can be taught imo. Acuna will be an absolute stud bc he can mash, but he won't "learn" to be a great defensive outfielder

our defense tonight has a lot to do with this score

Agreed. We've pretty much slept walked through this one. I know the term "lack of focus" gets a lot of debate on this board but (taking nothing away from Wheeler) that appears to be the case tonight.

Gausman didn't pitch badly.

There is one thing that I can point out which might have caused some issues in Baltimore. Too many of his off speed weren't competitive. If he can figure out how to do more pitches like I saw, like the splitter and slider that were close enough to chase, he can take another step.

Defensively it mostly was like he brought the Baltimore defense here. And apparently the offense.

I've seen this Braves team score way too many runs in innings 7-9 to give up on this game. Markakis needs to get FF to 3rd here, scratch at least 1R in this inning

I don't know. You could see Andruw's excellent defensive instincts from the moment he occupied centerfield at age 19. Admittedly, those types of defenders are rare but Acuna's defensive instincts are, at best, questionable at this point.

Gausman was ok tonight, but he wasn't acquired to go 5+. He needs to be going 6+. 1 start though

We just flushed our best scoring opportunity of the night. We'll lose half a game to the gNats and a full game to Philthydelphia.
