You just hate to see it.

Why in the world would I hate to see the Cardinals in an escalating downward spiral? Screw 'em, their infield fly rule, their fans and announcers that think they're God's gift to baseball--not to mention the Braves historical futility against them.

Smith's at-bat was so feeble, d'Arnaud could have made better contact while he still had his cast on. Crossing my fingers that this is the last game he plays for the Braves.

Generally speaking it’s better to put the ball in play, yes. That is how runs get driven in. But it depends on the situation. When you have a catcher who might as well be a pitcher hitting, no.

Which why I am still happy I was able to witness the Redbirds' elo foldo in the 1996 NLCS. Braves were down 3 games to 1 and won 14-0, 3-1 and 15-0 -- the last two at Busch. I prefer remembering that to Jim Leyritz in the Series.

Last two were actually at Fulton Co. Stadium. The 15-0 clincher was the last game we won there. ****ing Yankees...

Doing military stuff in 1996 but in that postseason, I saw none of the Cardinals series. I got to see Andruw Jones coming out party in Game 1 against the Yankees. I heard the Leyritz homer on a radio broadcast. I got to see the very end of Game 6 of the WS and the sickening feeling in my stomach as the final out of the series settled into the Yankee third baseman's glove in foul territory.
