GDT: 8/8/'14, Braves (Santana) vs. Nationals (Strasburg), 7:35pm EST

He was talking about a lack of power. I am glad you mentioned walks.

Homeruns aren't everything. I wish he did hit more homeruns, but he's racking up doubles and a few triples just nicely actually.

As long as he's swinging the bat well, the homeruns will come.

And in essence, the fact Heyward is getting more walks is a testament of teams not wanting to pitch to him because of the fear he's going to make them pay with potentially power.

It's not like he grew plate discipline overnight. When he's hitting well, teams aren't pitching to him not because they are afraid of singles power... they're afraid of him hitting one deep.

From DOB": #Braves Heyward past 21 games: .408 (31-for-76) w/ 8 XBH, 11 RBI, .471 OBP, .553 slugging%. Since 6/1: 55 games, ..298/.382/.434 w/ 18 XBH

I can deal with a 500 plus slugging.

But, if he hit more homers he could be slugging over .600.

Heyward has been a great player this year. It blows my mind he's still just 24 and gets the amount of flack he receives here. IF he hits to an .850+ OPS he's one of the 10 best position players in the game. He's showing signs of hitting again, and at any point could turn it on. It takes some guys longer in their careers, not everyone is Miggy or Trout. He's a very good player with the chance to be elite (some stats, like WAR on both BRef and Fangraphs, say he already is elite).

I'd be quite content the giving Heyward Freeman-type money.
