Folty throwing 90 mph fastballs? I didn't think that was possible. Hope there's nothing wrong with his arm.

He's definitely been better at 3B that I expected. Love to see these older guys emerge from the minors and do well. He's really earned his keep the past few weeks.

I try to tell you that early on when Bowman made him out as worse than CJ, Bowman needs to stick what he knows-food. :)

If, and they're big ifs, Folty can develop a credible second pitch and cut down the walks (smh), the sky's the limit for him. I liked the way he worked out of trouble tonight, just wish he hadn't put himself repeatedly into situations in which he had to walk a tightrope.

Folty was throwing 89 mph mostly because he cannot control his high velo fastballs, he has always went up and down with his velo so nothing to worry about there. In fact, the main reason he has been able to hit high 90's late in games at times this year is in those games he often holds back on velocity to no more than mid-90s (topping out pretty much) instead of going harder early. But here lately he has been trying harder early again and then softer later depending on the situation.

He's fine physically.. He just has control issues, that's why he was throwing meatballs to the opposing pitcher who he walked anyway.

Ha, yeah you were definitely right. His range seems at least okay, and his arm and glove work seem real impressive. Oh, and don't sell Bowman short. I have reason to believe that he also knows a lot about West Virginia.

If we hold the lead, will Viz get the ball again in the 9th? I suppose he hasn't pitched a lot recently.

Haha, fair point there. :)

Also, yea I like his arm at third too and his glove and range is at worst better than CJ at third. But that isn't to say he is anything special there. However, so far he has saved at least a run at third according to DRS coming into tonight. While CJ was always in the minus even in the early and short term at third after just a few games played there.

He has a quick transfer as well. Similar to Uribe.

That's why it was a head scratcher. Facing the pitcher for your last out of the night, why not air it out down the middle? If he has no more confidence to throw strikes than that, he's got problems. That's his ONLY job, throwing fastballs for strikes. He needs to get his head right.

We aren't losing this year because of Nick. Thats for damn sure.

Nick has really impressed me . . . all the abstract stuff about his focus, etc., seems to play out on the field. Every time he's gotten in a little funk and I've expected him to nosedive, he breaks off a 3-hit game and gets back to doing his thing.

It doesn't change how I feel about his deal or mitigate his defensive shortcomings, but I definitely give the guy credit for coming to play and getting the job done.
