GDT 8-9: Marlins at Braves Doubleheader Thread

Waldrep still kinda impressing me. Enjoying it while it lasts I guess.
Apparently he's changed his mechanics (lowered his leg kick a couple weeks ago) and has switched almost exclusively to a 2-seamer FB instead of the 4-seamer that was getting rocked. He's also throwing his split more in the majors than the minors so maybe there was something to the narrative that the Braves were asking him not to use the split much in the minors so he could develop his other stuff.

I keep saying..... The thing that could make the difference for him has always been command to get to the splitter. Anyone can see the difference in him when he's up in the count..0-2, 1-2..etc. That formula will play.

There has to be a level of encouragement n regards to Waldrep. Good outings before the callup and now two solid performances in the majors. He definitely looks like a different pitcher from last years. I like what I’m seeing

I understand the sentiment, but for me personally, rooting for that feels gross
I just want a healthy 10-20ish percent chance at that Number 1 pick. I like the occasional win here and there like in Bristol. But if I'm honest, at this point where the Braves are essentially eliminated from playoff contention, a winning streak will probably piss me off more than excite me, like a meaningless homer in the 9th of a blow-out. A lost season ending in a mediocre middle 1st-round pick? I want SOME "reward" for drudging through this season.

I appreciate the input on Waldrep. He looks better and that creates some hope for the future.

I didn’t get to watch today, but the results are encouraging.

With all the pitching injuries, I don’t think we’ll see a long winning streak. Just too much to be able to sustain such a streak.

Also this. Having the #1 or second pick is far different in baseball as opposed to the NFL or NBA. In those leagues, that high pick is expected to contribute the following season. In baseball, we may see him in a year and a half at best if he’s a college player and maybe three if it’s a high school player. And that high a pick is not guaranteed greatness. If it was, Tyler Houston would have a plaque in Cooperstown close to Chipper’s.

Just my two cents

Sale, Riley, and Acuna will be back soon. Waldrep will be in the rotation now. They aren't going a 70% winning streak, but I do think they finish with a winning record starting now.

Murphy back to sucking since the trade deadline came and went. Batting .125 in his past 15 games with no homers.
