GDT 9/5/24: Braves vs Rockies - Another must win

Now that ozuna has no more power, this offense is completely done. And yes doctor, there's a do-not-resuscitate... pull the plug, and let these bums die so us fans can move on

So it appears the Jackson move didn't hurt because the offense decided not to do sh*t.

I won't even say I hope the Tor pitching staff sh*ta the bed like they did vs Philly but that would still be enough to shut these bays down.

The Mets best friend his not having to play...just let the Braves lose them back into the race.

I could get this bunch of losers out throwing a tennis ball underhanded.

We're likely to get at least 88-89 wins. And yet, we still may miss the playoffs. This, while missing Strider and Acuna virtually all year. Albies and Harris for 60 games. Murphy for 50 games. Riley for 30 games. And Fried and Lopez for 4-5 starts.

It's frustrating to see us lose games we should win, as we still have some talented pieces that aren't playing up to par. But to be honest, it's a miracle we're even still in the hunt considering we can field an all-star team with the players who have been on the IL this year.

Every one of those guys plus Olson has been way worse than last year, so it isn't just injuries. Looks to me most the team took an offseason off

To be honest, I think that performance last night finally broke the braves' back. I think the Mets finish ahead of the Braves by 2+ games

Sure, but their replacements have been considerably worse. Particularly in the OF, where we currently rank 2nd to last in WAR. You don't think a healthy Acuna and Harris over that span would have made a difference there?

And Riley had been raking since about mid June, with a .940 OPS over that time until he got injured. Urshela has performed as well as could be expected, but he's big downgrade from Riley.

The Mets have the best record in baseball since May 30th. So they are legit. Their BP is a train wreck, but their offense is top notch and their SP is solid.

Unfortunately it's just a stacked NL this year. In any other year, we would be leading the WC right now. At this point last year, the Phillies were just a .5 game better than we are right now.

If you assured me an absolute collapse would get us a whole new staff, I'd take that option over making the playoffs at WC#3

Braves are probably going to have to go at least 14-8 over their last 22 games to get in. Unless something a little less than that involves sweeping the Mets, I’m not sure I’m real confident they make the playoffs.

We just won another series. I know we needed to sweep but the season isnt over yet. We could still pass 1 of the Dbacks or Padres also. I still say we make the playoffs.

I am looking at the rotation the rest of the way and we could end up with Schwellenbach pitching the last game of the season with a playoff spot on the line. Heres the scenarios I see with the remaining games. The rotation just starting from Sales start is Sale, Morton, Lopez, Fried, Schwellenbach.

TOR - Fried

TOR - SS

TOR - Sale

CIN - Morton

WSH - Lopez

WSH - Fried

offday - this is the point where multple scenarios emerge

LAD - Schwellenbach on 5 days rest or Sale on regular 4 day rest - I think its highly likely Sale is moved up

LAD - Sale on 5 days rest , SS on 6 days rest or Morton on 4 days rest - I think SS goes here but wont put it past Snit to want the Veteran.......

LAD - Lopez on 4 days rest or Morton on 5 days rest - pretty confident they skip Morton as long as they can here

LAD - Fried on 4 days rest or Morton on 6 days rest

Cin - Morton on 7 days rest - most likely Mortons next start - pushes Lopez/Fried back 1 game if he starts over them in previous games

Cin - Sale or SS depending on how they order the first 2 games vs LAD. Probably Sale on 4 days rest here

Cin - SS or Sale depending on who started game 1 vs Cin. Probably SS here on 4 days rest

MIA- Lopez on 4 days rest

MIA - Fried on 4 days rest

MIA - Morton on 4 days rest

Off day -

NYM- Sale or SS on 5 days rest - depending who starts game 1 vs LAD - Whoever starts here would be set to pitch the final regular season game if we need it. Thus it makes the most sense to move Sale up in the rotation so he can start this game and game 162. If we dont need him then he gets an extra 2-3 days of rest and the playoff rotation is lined up perfectly.

NYM- SS on 5 days rest or Lopez on 4 days rest - probably SS but they may want to move up Lopez/Fried for this series

NYM- SS on 6 days rest, Lopez on 5 days rest or Fried on 4 days rest- assuming SS in previous game this is Lopez. If they skip SS in game 2 I assume they would in game 3 as well.

KC- SS on 7 days rest or Fried on 5 days rest

KC- Morton on 5 days rest - god help us if we need a win here. If we dont need the win I expect AJSS or Ian Anderson here.

KC- Sale on 4 days rest - If we dont need the win I expect AJSS or Ian Anderson here

I think they move Sale up and keep him on 4 days rest the remaining way. Imo of all the starters who need the extra days its SS and moving Sale/Lopez/Fried up when we can do so and still be on 4 days rest gets him that extra rest. We should be able to squeeze in 5 more Sale starts and only have to bear 3 more starts from Morton if they do this right.
