GDT: Braves @ Phillies Game 4: Avoid the Death Blow

I’ll post some thoughts of mine later. I’ll go ahead and say the cost of getting Turner kind of spooks me.

Now I just sit here and hope Bama gets their heads out of their butts in Knoxville

I would be a lot less upset if it wasn’t the ****ing Phillies… 3rd place trash

Other than bullpen, i wouldnt say we're much different than them. Rotation is about the same, offense about the same (obviously not this series). Our defense is better but they're good and playing really well right now.

I dont think we get Turner but also not sure AA pays Dansby the money he may get on the open market.

And here is where I get confused with the tre Turner name…he’s going to command more than Swanson…if we can’t afford Swanson what makes people think we can afford aturner.

Snit would still put Trea in the 2 hole.

As long as Snit is manager, Acuna will never be moved out of the leadoff spot.

Last year, we were an 88 win team, and lucked our way to a WS with replacement players GOATing in the month of October.

Anyone who thought Snit was some masterclass manager in October last year, hasn't been paying attention the last 5 years. No doubt Snit is a good clubhouse guy, but tactician he is not.

Nothing Snit did lost this series. We couldnt hit, thats why we lost. It doesnt matter what he did that could change that. Snit is far from the best manager but cant even blame this series on him. And Snit managed damn near perfectly last October.

Yeah i dont see AA giving Trea the 200+ million he'll get on the open market.

The Dansby situation is very interesting. I mean i wouldnt pay him the money he gets on the open market but where do you spend this money? DeGrom? outfield market minus Judge is meh. Go after Xander or Correa if not Trea? Everywhere else is pretty much locked in next year, maybe could use another bullpen arm as well.

Braves are setup as well/better than any team in baseball going forward, certainly going to be a very very interesting offseason though.

I agree with this. Turner is going to get at least $10-15M more per year than Swanson, if I had to guess

If we're not willing to overpay by just a bit for Swanson, who's been one of the key glue pieces of this sustained success for five years, we're not blowing the bank out for Turner, Bogarts or Correa (if he opts out).

Its probably stupid way of looking at it but I’m just not a fan of giving out the “mega contract” unless someone is just simply a great hitter regardless of position. Could live with Arcia and Grissom IF that money can be deployed for a really good left fielder.

Good news is this team has several avenues to be better next year. Add one more really good starter, fix left field. Hopefully replace Jansen with another good reliever. Get back Albies. Acuna should ideally be twice the player he was this year. Olson should hopefully be 30% better.

We are going to need more than one good reliever to really bulk up this pen. This year taught us nothing is ever automatic on that end.

There's really not many good outfielders on the open market. I could absolutely see AA splurge on one of the top shortstops.

I don't think there is any doubt there will be a big ticket sign this off-season. You don't draw 3M fans in the middle of your contention window and not add big.

Who would be a top target for LF?

Oh man, not a great FA market. Michael Brantley, Conforto, AJ Pollock, Gallo, Haniger, Benidenti, Pham, Nimmo, Joc. Not the best out there, but some options. Rosario deal was so bad, AA just had to go 2 years.

This one just stings because the team didn't seem to show up at all this series. 3 of our 4 SP got bombed, and the majority of our lineup was absolutely atrocious. I didn't expect us to win the WS again, but would have liked to see us put up a fight.

That being said, the future is extremely bright.

Other than the Olson 3-run HR, the offense did jack**** all series. Can blame Snit, lineup contruction all you want. We couldnt hit, and the starters got lit up aside from Wright. Braves are probably setup better than any team in baseball over the next 2-3 years, it'll be an interesting offseason for AA though. Will he pay Dansby, go after one of the top shortstops, go after DeGrom? How much does he add to the pen.

I don't know if he can make it official until after the World Series, but up here in Minnesota, all indications are that Correa will opt out and is looking for a deal in the neighborhood of 7/210 MM. Twins are in a bit of a pickle here. I think it was their hope that Royce Lewis would get some ABs in the OF/DH this year and slide into the SS position next season. Unfortunately for them, Lewis keeps doing a Byron Buxton imitation.

Anthopoulos isn't averse to pulling off the surprise move and we'll likely see one again this off-season. Infield is set. Catching position is set. 2/3 of OF is set. Questions are in the rotation and bullpen (especially if Jansen moves on). One proposed move that had folks salivating last off-season was the prospect of picking up Reynolds from the Pirates. I poo-pooed that, largely because I thought the Pirates were going to be considerably better than they turned out to be. I still don't know if the Braves have the prospect capital to pull off a deal for Reynolds, but it will be interesting to see if there is interest in Grissom. I fully expect Anderson and/or Muller to be dealt.
