GDT: Marlins @ Braves 5/19

I love late-bloomers; but for now it’s still unclear if Camargo will bloom enough, with the bat, to be worth allotting 500-600 PA/year to him anywhere where he’s a plus-enough defender.

while advocating for trading someone like Beltre im not saying Camargo should be a one game a week player

walk rate probably will come down a good bit...but as I've hinted at before I like Camargo a bit more as a hitter than Swanson.

WHat was once unimaginable is becoming more likely.

Ultimately I think they are similar players in terms of offensive production and coupled with their defense they are both starters.

I've made the case before that both Camargo and Swanson need to get their strikeout rate below 20%. So far this season, one of them has done this.

Swanson is fine. Despite playing 10-13 games less than the rest of the fdWAR leaders at SS, he is still tied for 5th among mlb SS. .753 ops

Maybe not. But I still don’t think it’s clear whether he’s a three-day- or a seven-day-a-week player.

I'm glad we have him...id feel good with a combination of Beltre, Swanson and Camargo sharing playing time at third and short

And yet...like I've said before, statcast is surprisingly very positive on Swanson's season this year with the bat despite the high BABIP and a strikeout rate that is too high. It had him as overachieving in his sample size, but not to the point of what we saw back in 2016, it has him as a positive bat even if you remove the luck (for SS outside of the real studs like Lindor/Correa/Seager).

A Moustakas/Camargo platoon would produce pretty elitely for this year, and with Camargo on the short side of that, still free him up to give Bae a day a week. But I’m much more in on Swanson as a full-time starter than you, so I’m not really sure the latter is necessary.

That's a good point. For his career Moose has an OPS of .759 against righties and .683 against lefties. This year his splits are a lot more pronounced, but small samples can be misleading for splits. I think his career numbers though are enough to validate your idea.

Camargo is not the long term answer at 3rd, but he’s hands down the best option this year and would be very solid. They just have to quit jerking him around.

Apparently a press conference with Anthopoulos was called for this morning. Gotta think it’s bautista related since Camargo is playing today vs a lefty
