GDT: Marlins @ Braves Trade Deadline Day Special

Allard was a power pitcher when he was drafted. At 20 he's lost probably 4 MPH off his fastball. I really wonder what's up with that.

So I’ll mark you down as someone who thinks Allard is legit?

Curves in the dirt don’t hang...

I am surprised he didn't get crushed tonight with not his best velocity and not his best change and no curve. But when he is sitting 90-92 mph and has a good change and and great curve I like him. That wasn't the Allard I saw tonight.

This was my first time to see Allard pitch. The stuff didn’t blow me away. If he’s going to be successful, he will have to have top notch control if he can’t add a couple MPH on the fastball. However, I’m not going to say he can’t be successful. Not after one start in the majors. Once he goes back to AAA, he’ll have to continue to learn how to pitch with control.

Kyle Hendricks is the maybe the best aspirational soft throwing comp.

But there are a fair number of veteran types who get by with 89 mph.

But some of those veteran guys learned how to pitch when they broke in, and probably had low 90s stuff. Annibal had really good velocity when he came up. He's now a pitcher.

He did just hit that HR, but I'd like to see Camargo tinker with ditching switch hitting in a winter league after this season.
