GDT: Mets @ Braves 03/23: Return of the Venezuelan Trout

I honestly would rather play good teams in beginning of season.

good teams are playing long game. They aren’t trying to win the division in April. They’ll slow walk it.

In april, the usual cellar dwellers still think they have a fighting chance. Some get hot before they start the season long fade.

Figuring out schedule strength in mlb is almost impossible... great teams have horrible stretches, and terrible teams have great stretches.

No doubt. Every year you catch a couple of top teams when their bats are having a bad couple of weeks and you catch a couple of bad teams who are firing on all cyliders for a week. That's why I don't really buy into any of the strength of schedule stuff. We may play the Padres in a week where Soto and Tatis are on the DL while the Mets play them at full strength. We may play the Pirates when Keller and Contreras are on a three week heater and the Mets may miss them both in their three game series later that week. It all evens out in the long run.

schedule all depends on what pitchers you are facing.. one team facing the mutts with thier 1/2 going versus johnny bobo will be at the disadvantage to the team who gets 2 johnny bobos and 1 good pitcher.

So they have Ozuna in the 4 hole and Murphy hitting 7th.. is Twit just trolling us right now... that can't be a serious lineup thought!??!?!?

Hell yes Ozuna is hitting 4th - have you seen what he’s been doing to baseballs all spring ? He is barreling everything- he’s gonna be a monster and be in serious contention to win the NL HR race.

As someone else mentioned, i'm pretty sure that both will break camp with the team. Wright taking a week off probably causes him to miss a start. So you can give both Schuster and Dodd a chance to make a statement in an actual big league game, while making sure Wright is good to go.

As someone who wants to see actual data on both these guys as soon as possible, this would be ideal.

I have concerns Wright is already breaking down (shoulder issues don't typically go away for long with a cortisone shot), so it wouldn't surprise me if both Dodd and Shuster end up starting more games than him.

I am never happy when I hear shoulder, but if it is just a strain or inflamed, then time and rest should fix it. but if there is a bigger problem that hasn't been discovered.. then yes I agree.

They said on the radio the other day that they had already one the MRI which revealed no structural damage, only minor inflammation in the muscle. Take that for what its worth, but if true, it is very encouraging.

The thing that makes me nervous is he said it had been bothering him for a long time and his answer was a cortisone shot. Those shots aren't a "fix" they just mask the pain temporarily. I worry if it has been bothering him so long, there's something else going on.
