GDT: Phillies @ Braves Day Game, What Could Go Wrong?

If FF is better for the next 3 years, we messed up.

"Very ****ing good" is subjective... so far Rizzo has been better, so got the worst of the group so far. He's 9th in fWAR among 1b, which is top 70%. I'd say that's good, but not very good

ETA... I don't think Rizzo will finish better than Olson

Olson leads the league in doubles, and is on pace for 30+ bombs, he's been pretty damn good.

Some people will never be convinced. FF groupies till the death.

Freeman has been better for sure but the FF butt lickers act like Olson has been a replacement player. He's been about what you could ask for and is 5 years younger.

10th in ops
11th in wrc+
10th in wOBA

Hoskins is right there with him in all these categories and fWAR. Is Hoskins very good?

Look, there is no shame in admitting you messed up if you are Braves. 4+ years from now doesn't really matter, only today really matters and Freddie is the better player today. We had the best 1st baseman in the league and we decided he wasn't worth locking up to the point of making an offer he couldn't refuse. I get the "love the one your with" syndrome and I know some didn't like Freddie's expectation that guys play every day, but the fact is we are weaker without him and that won't change.

Yes Hoskins is very good. Olson also has a recent track record of being elite which Hoskins doesn’t have.

Great players have “very good” seasons all the time. Up until a month ago, Soto had a wRC of 130 (and he’s basically Ted Williams).. Jose Rameriz had a 108 wRC in 2019. Bryce Harper had a 111 wRC the year after winning MVP. I’m not all worried that Olson has merely been a top 10 player at his position when none of his underlying metrics point to any sign of decline.

And it’s ok to admit you have homo tendencies towards Freeman. I like Freeman but the dude chose his path not us.

Guess we just have different ideas of what "very good" is. I'd say "very good" is 90th percentile, not 70th. Whatever though, I'm sure Olson would say he's disappointed in his "very good season".

The Braves are now 16-20 in day games, scoring 3.9 runs/game vs. 5.2 runs in night games. To put the weirdness of day games in perspective - since the end of the 14 game winning streak in June, the team is 26-15, and 7-8 in day games. Over half the losses are day games. In that 41-game span the Braves are averaging 3.2 runs a game in day games, and 5.5 runs a game in night games. It's just f-ing weird!

Fortunately they only have 16 scheduled day games left.

Olson has had to of had crazy pressure on him from the jump since getting here. The media, fans, teammates, and then seeing Freeman act like he did would weigh on somebody. He gets a free pass from me this year regardless. You don’t just come in and replace a cornerstone style franchise player and not have pressure.

Freddie fired his agent in a very public fashion. The Braves objectively made him the highest offer. The Braves have messed up their fair share of problems, but this is clearly not one of those times.

Go back to kicking your dog now.

Sure, but he’s contributing at the level of which he’s being compensated. He’s not a problem.

Don't have a dog. No matter none of the above changes Freddie is better than Olson.

This has to be the most short sighted take on a baseball move I’ve ever seen.

Well done.

Olson's had a very good year, as good as FF no. But he's hardly been the dissapointment the way yall make it seem. Acuna on the other hand, thats a different discussion. Whatever the hell is wrong with Ronnie, he needs to figure it out soon, like this weekend would be nice soon.

I like to criticize him too. I bash the best players... I bashed FF constantly. I've always had completely unfair expectations for great players
