GDT: Phillies vs Braves 9/3/14 12:10pm first pitch....

Bethancourt was hitting well the last couple of weeks down at Gwinett. He's 2-2 in today's game. Could he be turning it around at the plate? Still too early to say I guess.

Lets play a game of over under...

Heyward +/- .280 over

Simmons +/- .250 under

Freeman +/- .280 under

JUp +/- .295 under

Johnson +/- .270 under

LaStella +/- .265 under

BJ +/- .208 under

Bethancourt is now 3-3 and just knocked in the go-ahead run. I realize the jury's still out but he may be our long term answer at catcher (once he learns how to consistently frame pitches, of course).

CB started hitting when he got sent back down to AAA.

I'd love to do a Gattis for Betts trade. That would be awesome if possible.

Expanded rosters mean you can lift a pitcher a bit earlier. Also with the predominantly lefty Philly lineup, I would have used Russell/Avilan/Shreve to get some matchups before turning to Carpenter, Walden, Kimbrel.

Anybody going to give Fredi credit for playing CB today? Looks brilliant in hindsight.

I think CB has a long way to go offensively, but those of you who have declared that he will never hit enough to play are jumping the gun. While Simmons is struggling to change his approach to putting the ball in play instead of hitting it as far as he can, that appears to be one area where Bethancourt shows promise. He is not McCann or Gattis with the bat, but nowhere near as bad as some of you have already declared to be.

I think he will be a big improvement over Uggla, BJ, CJ with the bat. We see glimpses from time to time of what he can be. Just do it with a little more consistency and I think we will be happy with him as a Catcher.
