GDT pt. 2 6-28-14 (Game 2 of DH): Braves (Hale) at Philadelphia (O'Sullivan)

Without the gift scoring, our top two hitters would be 0-10 tonight. Though Simmons was good his first two games batting second and his long AB tonight did get their starter pitch count up.

Btw, I wouldn't mind giving Doumit more games but in place of BJ next time with Heyward in center and Justin in right.

My criticisms of Heyward stem from the fact that he just appears that he has "another level" that he's not reaching. I fully understand I might be completely overestimating what he's capable of doing. However, he's strong, athletic, and intelligent. For those reasons, it seems he should be another Mike Trout type of player and he's just not there yet. Believe me, there's no bigger Heyward fan than I am and I want him to be a five tool superstar. Maybe it'll happen; maybe not.

I love Heyward, but i doubt he'll be Mike Trout.

Trout is close to perfect as there is in a baseball player.

He's still young though, only 24.

Might reach his potential, maybe not with the Braves though

Would love to see Hale as our 5th starter and Harang as our bullpen long man.

Hale gets a lot of disrespect around these parts. Not sure I understand it. He isn't anythign special but he is a league minimum effective fifth starter. That has value.

Yeah comparing anyone to Trout is a little unrealistic. He's on a Willie Mays type level. As long as Heyward is a plus offensive player (wrc+ 120 or higher) with good base running and elite defense I would be happy with his performance. Sure we all wish he was a perfect player that hits 300 with a ton of walks and power but the perfect player is rare. And just because someone seems to have that ability doesn't mean they do.

Imagine that. Someone who hits the ball has value.

To this point he's still been awful. Poor base runner. Poor hitter. Poor defender.

He's hit well in June and I will take that going forward. But he really needs to hit for more power. And if you are going to sacrifice your power to get more hits then please cut down on the strikeouts.
