Georgia Senate Runoff

Ossoff won his race by getting his constituents to vote for him, so he is as qualified to be a politician as anyone can be. That's how Senators get their jobs, they get elected. He's not been appointed head of the Commerce or the Education Dept or some other position that will require special skills. He has to raise money and show up to vote. Integrity will help.

We need to put to bed the idea that experience in business makes one good at governing. It was wrong from the beginning and we've just seen a 4 year display disputing that idea.

Ossoff won the race because Trump went insane. Trump quite possibly was intentionally trying to throw the Georgia races. Ossoff's constituents didn't vote for him, they voted for the Democrat.

I don't care if it's business, non-profit, government, or whatever else, I want a Senator to have a long history of leadership. Ossoff has almost zero experience at anything.

In primary I favored and voted for Teresa Tomlinson.

and would add, Ossoff won the run off because he wasn't David Perdue.

For those unsure go watch the one debate and then tell me who was the more qualified
//////////////

People voted for the man --- not his resume or name familiarity (reality TV star, CEO of Dollar Store, owner of WNBA team )

Not sure why or how executive experience would be an advantage to be a legislator.
Aren't legislator there to regulate .
Kinda like saying one needs a fox to guard the hen house because a fox has experience with hen houses

Thought I saw an exit poll that said over 90% of voters' #1 concern was control of senate. I'd say that means D and R were more important than names, debates, whatever

I’m definitely a Democrat and I like Ossof. To tell you the truth I know less about Warnock on policy specifics but I voted for him. As to the man or the party that gavel is very important. To me there is nothing more important than stopping Mitch McConnell from controlling what gets considered. It’s not like all we had to do was convince a couple of Republicans before. We couldn’t get votes and anyone defecting from Trump and McConnell could expect repercussions. The Republican leadership is toxic.

Ossoff also became the candidate in the run-off in the first place, so I’d argue he was relatively successful as a politician before Trump sabotaged Perdue.

As far as qualifications, I agree to an extent, but that’s not really how we do things. Ossoff has run a company for the past 7 years and has worked in the government as a staffer. Given some of the idiots we’ve let be Senators, it’s not all that different.

Senate makeup will be interesting as at 50/50 you have some Red Senators that will lean blue and some Blue Senators that will lean Red. What this does mean though is that Biden's Cabinet won't be hijacked by Mitch.

Yeah. For as much as Manchin and some others will impact some progressive legislation, they aren’t likely to openly obstruct the Biden Administration as McConnell would have. Judicial appointments will be largely confirmed, Biden should get any qualified cabinet selection through and some popular initiatives that aren’t too radical should stand a better chance of passing.

I'd actually be in favor of Bernie.

I think he'd at least try to bring back the legislative process a lot more

That’s actually my biggest concern for the next two years under Pelosi and Schumer. While I’m thrilled Ossoff and Warnock won and McConnell doesn’t essentially run the Senate, we’re still nowhere near fixing the issue of all bills being handled by about 8-10 people while the rest of Congress sits on their thumbs.

Further proof Stacey Abrams should probably be running the DNC.

Might want to let her prove it in an election that doesn't have unlimited absentee voting first, since she wasn't able to get close to those results in 2018.
