Global Events & Politics Überthread

I think that sympathy for white supremacism and general white grievance provides a substantial base of support for Trump, and Trumpism. You're right that the raw numbers of outright white nationalists are small, but in the Trump era they have been given a platform and encouraged to a degree that I have never personally observed before in national politics. Charlottesville was an instructive example of this, and it's rather cowardly IMO to avoid this.

You are very dismissive of the Breitbart/white supremacist connection, but that BuzzFeed piece laid it out in pretty stark detail. The same crew that ran the Trump campaign and got a couple of seats on the National Security Council was consulting with Nazis on how to mainstream their ideology. That's worth worrying about it, isn't it?

Canadia makes it illegal to protest abortion clinics. Because caring about babies being killed means you need to be in a cage. How soon will it be hate speech to not be for abortion? This is why I don't support hate speech laws
It is eventually going to be some dip**** government bureaucrat who decided what is and isn't hate speech. They point to the Nazis when they want to pass it then use it for bull**** when it's passsed. It is the proverbial slippery slope.

SOP for the left. Not sure why you are even surprised.

This is the end game of the decades long political correctness strategy. First it's inconsiderate, then it's rude, it progresses to intolerant, makes the jump to hate speech, and then it becomes illegal.

First grader suspended for bringing a butter knife to school to eat lunch with. This situation really boils down the evil of government to it's simplest. The principal days there was an "incident" with a student that had a butter knife in her possession. Reality is the kid was eating her lunch when a teacher saw the student eating her lunch using the butter knife. The principal say multiple times that they had to suspend the student for the safety of the students. The code she sights says they can suspend a student if they bring a dangerous weapon to the school, this calling a butter knife a dangerous weapon.... she knows she's wrong, I know she,'s wrong, you know she is wrong, everyone knows she is wrong. What kind of monster do you have to be to railroad a first grader like this. It's not a big him from railroading firstgraders to putting Jews in an oven. This is the end result of blindly obeying government authority.

This is also a big reason why our public schools suck. When the staff are this stupid what chance so their students have?

It's amazing. Most of the boys in my high school had pocketknives in their jeans and rifles in the gunracks of their trucks in the school parking lot. There was never an incident with any of them.

Now we suspend kids for a butter knife. This is "progression"?

What gets me is the principal repeatedly saying they had to suspend the student for the safety of all students. If that's considered a dangerous weapon then what is a pencil or pen? Maybe the kids should be in handcuffs because their hands could be used as deadly weapons. Do high school kids use safety scissors? Regular scissors are far more dangerous than a butter knife. What about a fork? Don't they give out plastic knives with lunches? Oh god that means there are thousands of dangerous weapons given to our kids every day according to their logic. Technically a kid could take their shirt off and strangle soneone. So that's pretty dangerous.

Its not a progressive left. Its a regressive left now.

So someone came out claiming Kevin Spacey hit on him when he was 14. Spacey says he doesnt remember then played the gay card which was super effective. I had no idea people thought he was straight. You dont make out with dudes in shows where you have full creative control if you are straight. Whats next. Tom Cruise is gay? Elton John coming out this year?

Surely the salve that can heal our partisan wounds in this divisive time is that we all agree that House of Cards is ****ing terrible.

The original HoC is fantastic. The Netflix/Spacey remix has it moments ... unfortunately, they've become few and far between.

Warnings of ‘GLOBAL OUTBREAK’ of Black Death as PLAGUE continues to spread

Some 1,300 cases of the pneumonic plague, which is transmitted by air, have now been confirmed.

An estimated 50 million lives were lost as a result of the Black Death epidemic of the 1300s.

And now the deadly disease has spread into more African countries after taking root in Madagascar.

Countries affected include South Africa, Mozambique, Tanzania, Kenya, Ethiopia, Comoros, the Seychelles, Mauritius and Reunion.

So far, the virus has killed 124 people and infected around 1,300, but scientists say this figure will definitely rise.

The World Health Organisation, which has been working with Madagascar’s Ministry of Health, has warned the risk of the epidemic spreading is “high”.

"Plague, though terrifying, is nothing new in Madagascar, where about 600 cases are reported annually," the organisation said on its website.

But officials said while "health officials couldn't explain it", the plague is different this time.

No ban on people from Madagascar yet?
