Global Events & Politics Überthread

Bolton's not selling a book here.

There's real war being played here.

I am not a fan of Bolton. He's a huge neocon. But being a neocon has little to do with what he said in this clip.

He was caught in a lie and you act like this is no big deal. lol

The guy is a disgruntled employee.

You libs hate Putin but you'd believe him if he told you what you want to hear on Trump.

The amount of credibility anyone right of center can obtain just by bashing Trump is amazing. A few years ago Bolton was the devil in the flesh, now he's an oracle.

For the record, I imagine Trump did have very little to do with setting foreign policy. That was Jared, Bannon, Tillerson, Pompeo, and Meadows. Trump either got ridiculously lucky or made great decisions to give them that power, they did a great job. Worthy of a Nobel Peace prize if those were still given on merit.

You fundamentally misunderstand. Bolton is a piece of **** but if any Presidents own national security advisor says what he did about the President he served it is front page news. If Bolton was alone in saying what he did it would be one thing, but he is in a long line of people Trump hired. It's not our fault Trump mainly hires prices of ****.

Imagine if Kamala came out and said Biden was a corrupt lunatic. Would the Republicans response be "oh well she's probably lying". Hell no it wouldn't.

Think the US is going to regret getting involved in this at all.

Sanctions are not going to do what they think it will do. Law of unintended consequences is in full force right now...

In order for the analogy to hold up, I need to know if the hypothetical Kamala comments came out before or after Biden publicly humiliated and fired her?

As for your first point, I'm mostly in agreement with you. It wouldn't surprise me if Trump can't find Ukraine on a map, doesn't know the difference between Shia and Sunni, can't tell you what a Uighur is, and can't name ten countries south of the equator. I bet Biden, Obama, Clinton, and the Bushes can do all of those things. The point is that the people Trump had in roles to make those decisions did very well. Better than any of those other presidents I listed.

In underrated news of the day, the US Defense Dept announced they've established a hotline with the Russian Ministry of Defense to prevent "miscalculation, military incidents, and escalation."

That's insanely important. Accidental escalation is a big risk here and I don't think it's something either side wants.

I wonder how much spreading collusion lies about Putin impacted his decision to get closer to the CCP?

Never forget what the elitists did to the world. Its going to take decades to sort out all their mistakes.

Who is manning our side of the phone. After that SOTU world jumble I'm not sure it needs to be POTUS.

As opposed to the current president's ineptitude...

Don't worry, desantis on the way

What is Biden doing wrong on the Ukraine front?

Cause all I hear and see how awful it is and then those same people explain nothing or not do anything different than what’s already happening

On the plus side, those new weapons will be used by an insurgency that will make Afghanistan look like a paintball field.

Lots of ways this can end at this point. Some scary, some beneficial.

In any event, I think the economic situation is more complex than this guy is portraying it. None of the countries listed are going to tie themselves to Russia in opposition of the West.

China may beat us up constantly in their press and even want to see us decline as a power but one thing is certain, they're very deep in bed with us economically. China isn't going to curb dealings with the west in favor of Russia. They'll be willing to trade with Russia and help them circumvent sanctions but there is a line. China is very, very self-interested. They want to see their prosperity, prestige, and power grow. They need the West for that. So China will play both sides.

I see the other two playing both sides as well.

I think you could see three different camps. One is the West, the other is Russia and its client states, and the third are the neutrals who will play both sides.

As for the tech, this isn't like Afghanistan where we're leaving behind armored vehicles and such. What's being sent is stuff that would work in an insurgency.

The Biden administration has handled the invasion beautifully.

Insurgencies don't work as well when you have flat open terrain. Especially when the 'invaders' aren't restricted by a moral code of war.

Entities like the CCP have no concerns for short term hardship. And for them short term is 10-20 years. Their view is long term and their view is undoubtabley to replace the US as the primary hegemon.

Did you know that we have implemented heavier sanctions on Putin than we did the Nazi's?

The moral code is definitely an issue, but our drones should have plenty of silhouettes of women and children painted on their sides. The Ukrainians have the luxury of facing an invader with almost no night vision equipment. Every Russian soldier should come to hate the setting of the sun.
