Just when some were already drafting Javier Milei’s political obituary, the self-described anarcho-capitalist defied expectations with a resounding victory in Argentina’s midterm election.
Milei’s La Libertad Avanza won about 41% of the vote on Sunday, securing the largest single bloc in the Lower House and tripling its seats in the Senate. Crucially, the president now controls the one-third of seats he needed to block any impeachment efforts and to defend his veto power. Together with its allies, La Libertad Avanza will stand close to a working majority — enough to reinvigorate Milei’s reformist agenda. Markets are understandably rallying on the news in early Monday trading.

It’s not really about race, it’s about culture. I’m not sure why acknowledging that some cultures are just inferior to others is a bad thing. I lived in some trailer parks as a kid. After living in subdivisions, I can definitively say subdivision culture is superior to trailer park culture. Cultures where the age of consent is 16 or 18 are superior to those where girls as young as 8 are married off to old pedos. Cultures where kids are expected to work an honest job are superior to those where kids join gangs. Cultures where adults work hard and are responsible with their money are superior to those where adults scam the welfare system for life.
I would prefer to export superior culture than to import inferior culture. It seems simple to me.

Those of us who are immigrants are well positioned to assess different cultures. We are selective about which parts of American culture to embrace and which parts to reject. Our children benefit from this selectivity.
We have posters on these boards whose cultural values lead them to value an SEC championship over 5 Nobel prizes. Hard pass on that.

My overall assessment of American culture is very positive but nuanced.
I'll cite one good and one bad. The bad is American fast food culture, which has conquered the world, and spread with it obesity, diabetes and heart disease on a massive scale. I get the convenience and enjoy an occasional Big Mac. And recognize that no one is being forced to adopt these eating habits. But that doesn't stop me from seeing the negative effects of this particular cultural export.
The positive is American entrepreneurialism and willingness to try shit and embrace disruptive change. It is hard to describe how much more wedded to the status quo most of the rest of the world is. Our tolerance for disruptive change and personal reinvention is a great strength even though in particular instances it gets us into trouble.
So it’s Americans fault that corporations concentrated their development efforts here first for proof of concept. Made billions and then expanded to others?

I didn't assign blame to anyone. But I will note that brain science has shown there is an addictive element to their products that has helped to propel their success. Every society will have to decide what to do about that.
When something negative from another culture presents itself in America, you tell us it is willful destruction of the West. When we export something negative from our culture, we’re just entrepreneurs.
