China is ran by the principle of centralized rule. The US founding is the exact opposite and is intended to empower the individual. China will want to extend their rule to all peoples and have shown incredible amounts of aggression within their hemisphere. If we are foolish enough to think it will stop there then we deserve to lose our spot as the dominant global power.
But, working with Japan/India/SK and giving another option to the Afriann and SoutEast Asian countries, all of which want to divest themselves away from the Chinese infrastructure investment traps, this administration is FINALLY putting pressure on China to change their ways. I don't think we can settle for a deal with them anymore unless it has significant changes to their operative model. THe best thing for America is to reconfigure the global supply chain. Have more items bought from SouthEast Asia. Develop more products in America as the relative advantage in labor costs are somewhat muted now with the advent of automation. Put the screws to China and get money out of that country.
China surely wants to dominate its region but I hardly see that as wanting world domination. Its outright silly in the nuclear age to conceive of anyone taking over the world.
All that said, how do you feel about TPP that Trump nixed?
