GM/Winter Meetings Thread

Sources: Chad MacDonald expected to join #Braves’ scouting department. Previously was #Padres’ assistant GM in charge of amateur scouting.

Wasn't sure where to put this. Have no clue if this guy is any good but its clear the Braves are focussing on building their network. We didn't hear much of this during the Wren era.

Dodgers making a push for Lester.

Greinke has an opt-out clause after next year.

Shanks' dreams almost complete.

Seriously, though, **** the Dodgers if that happens and they have that rotation. Mattingly should be fired if they don't win 100 games.

Wonder if we're one of the teams in on Kemp. Would need to scrap BJ somehow to make that happen.

Matt Kemp would 150% go agaisnt the defense up the middle premise. He may be the worst defensive centerfielder in baseball. The only person I can make a case for being worse than him is Fowler, but I'm not sure Fowler is as terrible as his numbers. He's patrolled CF in the 2 toughest parks to do it, Coors and the massive real estate of Houston. If we're in on Kemp it would be for LF.

1. Who says the Braves care about defense?
2. I was thinking more of left field anyway, once we traded Justin.

Assuming we kept Gattis.

So scratch Andrew Miller from the feeding frenzy. Four years, $36 million to the Yankees. As pointed out elsewhere, no draft pick risked by his signing, but one gained by letting Robertson go into the market.

Interesting guy new Rays skipper, Kevin Cash. Guess he and Johnny Damon are the only two modern players who can claim a World Series ring from both the Red Sox and Yankees.....

If that deal goes down soon enough, it should help us if the Padres take Kemp off the board. That would then make the M's more likely to give up more for Justin, among other teams too.

That said, if we trade Justin before hand we could get less and the Dodgers could then get more for Kemp (as it seems the same teams are in on both).

Kemp has a huge contract, while Justin is only on a 1-yr deal but then again teams could just wait next offseason and sign Justin for only a draft pick.

Braves aren’t done make moves, reports David O’Brien of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution in a series of tweets. The club is looking to add another starting pitcher, second baseman, and backup catcher. Atlanta is still in the mix for former Braves backstop David Ross, which could address one of those concerns. A left-handed reliever and additional bench help are also on the wish list. As for available funds, they can afford to pursue a moderately priced free agent or perhaps make a bigger splash if they move more money.
