Golf Thread [2017: The Open at Royal Birkdale]

There are some reports that McIIroy is on the juice, but I don't think anything has been linked to him like Tiger.

Accusing someoen of steroids is the hatoraid way of doing things.

People accused anyone in baseball who was good of being on steroids. While some guys used PEDs (Bonds, McGwire, A-Fraud) some guys were accused with little evidence (to name 2 immediately Chipper and Andruw)

Tiger isn't accused "with little evidence."

Tiger isn't accused "with little evidence."

He's accused cause he's great. Only strong link is biogenesis. Which not everyone tied to that was using something illegal.

Here's a quote about biogenesis

Hank Haney, Woods' former swing coach, who has been one of Woods' most vocal critics since they stopped working together in 2010, told the Golf Channel that he never saw anything out of the ordinary in Galea's treatment of Woods.

"I was there and watched the whole procedure," Haney said. "There was never anything that went into Tiger Woods's body that didn't come out of his body. They take blood out, they spin it, they inject the plasma back in. I totally believe that Tiger Woods has never taken any performance-enhancing drugs."

You don't know when to stop when you clearly don't even know what you are talking about. Haney was on 4 visits with Galea (the Canadian Doctor) where he even claims he has no idea what type of treatments Woods was given, bc stuff was taken out of his knees and put back in.

The Biogenesis scandal out of Florida was with Anthony Bosch, where Tiger was on the list as having received "testosterone creams, human growth hormone and steroids"

Pac Man is past his prime and has slowed down.

Tiger is off the juice.

That explains it better than their sex lives.

Even if Tiger was on roids (I'm skeptical) that would have little to do with his performance. He's hitting the ball roughly the same distance at he was in his prime. The main thing is he isn't sinking as many puts as he used to. And despite all that, he's still one of the top golfers in the world when he's healthy.

As far as confidence, eh his sex life could have just as large an affect, if not larger.

He hasn't been one of the top golfers in the world in a long time.

I see you didn't bother to read the bit after that. "when he's healthy."

He hasn't been healthy in a while. He's played in a grand total of 12 tourneys since the start of 2014. You're golf ranking tends to take a hit when you don't play in any event and the ones you do play you don't play well (again due to injury).

2013 was the last time he was remotely healthy and he won like 6 tourneys. It's possible he never regains the no. 1 ranking. But acting like being off roids (if he was on them) is the reason for his downfall is stupid.

09- 18 events, 15 top 10, 7 wins
10- 12 events, 2 top 10, 0 wins
11- 9 events, 2 top 10, 0 wins
12- 19 events, 9 top 10, 3 wins
13- 16 events, 8 top 10, 5 wins
14- 7 events, 0 top 10, 0 wins
15- 5 events, 0 top 10, 0 wins

so when was he healthy vs. no healthy?

When was the biogenesis report?

He isn't sinking as many putts for a litany of reasons, but distance isn't one of them. He isn't hitting irons closer in large part because he isn't hitting fairways. He traded in a predictable fade, for uncontrollable distance off the tee since Haney was his coach. He hits around 50% of fairways over the passed few years, and that isn't a recipe for close iron shots and birdies for Tiger. Always a better putter under pressure than not, he makes all of his 5 footers, and around half of other putts inside 10 feet I'd wager which is average.

Problem is, I think his average birdie putt has gotten farther from the cup with the scoring irons for him. ( 8 iron-wedges)

so when was he healthy vs. no healthy?

When was the biogenesis report?

10 and 11 was when he was going through the divorce and the public scrutiny for his infedility. He also didn't compete nearly as much as years past. Is it really that surprising to see him stumble a bit when dealing with pressure of losing sponsors and the entire world knowing your sex life and hating you, and also not playing competitively nearly as much as years past? Anyone at the top of their game will attest to how much effort you have to put in to remain at the top. If you're not putting in the time that you used to, it's pretty reasonable to expect a decline in performance.

He had surgery on his back barely 1 year ago. And had another back injury at the start of this year. So, no longer taking steroids means he gets a back injury?. Injuries are largely the reason he has fallen off recently. If he did take steroids, then at best they might have helped him recover from injuries faster. But aside from that, they would have had almost zero affect on his overall game.

Those greens are terrible and I'm not talking about the discoloration.

I agree. This is a horrible U.S. Open Course.

It would make a perfect British Open Course but this is not what I want to see at our Open. Why give European players an advantage with a links course?

I was pulling for DJ but he always chokes, so cant really be surprised with that.

I thought his body language was negative while looking over his first putt and predicted he'd miss it coming back. He looked like he had no confidence at all and that was hard to believe after the drive and 2nd shot he hit.

I guess he "choked" but watching that first putt, he barely tapped it. That put must have been a nightmare.

I have trouble with nerves playing my local league matches, doing it on that stage is incredible. Glad to see asperity win another one. Almost as happy as seeing Tiger play like crap.
