Great television shows

Not sure if there's been a thread on this, but I thought it'd be interesting to hear from others.

I just watched the finale of The Shield today (still in awe over the last few episodes) and went through the series over the last few months.

It bolted right up near the top for me.

Others at the top of my list: The Wire, Breaking Bad, Mad Men, Six Feet Under. Game of Thrones has impressed me through four seasons as well.

A show I think is brilliant that is not widely known is Rectify on Sundance.

A few other shows I've watched have had their moments, but haven't quite reached the level of some of my tops ones. The Bridge on FX has been pretty solid. The Walking Dead is hit or miss. The Killing on AMC, I thought, was underrated, but they just wrapped it up on Netflix, and it had a really terrible ending.

I've got a rather lengthy list of shows I haven't seen that I'd like to go back and catch up on. The Sopranos, Deadwood, Sons of Anarchy, The Americans are a few that come to mind.

Edit: Moreso talking about dramas.

Deadwood was great. Although They use the term cocksucker about 70 times an episode.

The character, Swearingen was one of the best tv characters I've seen in the past decade.

Watching Breaking Bad on Netflix. Just got into the final season. It keeps getting crazier. Started watching Tudors as well. Henry VIII if I remember correctly. I think I stopped in season 2. Only stopped because Breaking Bad had us hooked.

Breaking Bad is the best. I caught up right before the finale and barely slept in the process. The Killing on Netflix was pretty good as well.

As far as current shows:
Masters of Sex
The Americans
Homeland
The League
Bates Motel

My favorites at the moment.

Shows I watch currently or watched recently.

Doctor Who - Classic.
Boardwalk Empire - Steve Buscemi is a force
Parks and Rec - Decent comedy with some very high moments
Bob's Burgers - Love it. The last season was a slight drop off though.
Luther - Amazing show. Elba is fantastic
Sherlock - Cumberbatch and Freeman are fan ****ing tastic. Look forward to next season.
Merlin - Not a bad show, wish it ended better.
The Cape - Mainly watched because of Community, not a bad show, got some **** reviews but it's a really interesting concept and I think the leads were strong.
Lillehammer - Awesome netflix original.
Legit - Really good comedy.
House of Cards - So ****ing good.

Breaking Bad is ridiculously good. A masterpiece of television.

Another show I HIGHLY recommend if you can find it is Strike Back on Cinemax. The first season was a British TV show and after that Cinemax picked it up. It's basically '24' on crack and with nudity.

Other shows:

The Walking Dead

Orange is the New Black

Modern Family

The Sopranos

The League

I will fully admit I didn't watch more than 2 episodes of the past season of Walkting Dead but it's gotten so bad. First season was amazing. Second season was OK. third season had some highlights but overall sucked. The issue the show ran into for me was too much time and too little development. I also pretty much never cared when someone was killed off, and they couldn't write a female lead to save their lives.

The Wire for the thread win!

Guess I did win.

Id rank top 3 ive seen like this:

The Wire

True Detective (the acting was incredible)

Breaking Bad (the only thing I didn't like much in BB was some of the actors were terrible)

If you can't laugh while watching Modern Family, then you have problems with your sense of humor

Watching an old HBO series I missed first time around, Carnvale. It's pretty good. American Horror Story Freakshow should be good too.

Also, I agree with all the obvious ones, but a personal favorite of mine is Twin Peaks. Just watched that this year and it's incredible.

The Shield was amazing.....probably in my top 5. The Wire is probably the best all around show I've watched....Breaking Bad the most entertaining but the way they closed story lines with ridiculous flukes always has bothered me and prevented it from being at the top or top 3.

Forgot to mention True Detective. Really liked the first season. Will be tough for the second season to live up to it.

Also, Fargo was really good.

American Horror Story has been hit or miss, but I'm optimistic for this upcoming season.

I really liked AHS: Asylum. Watched it first by mistake on Netflix. Starting on season 1 now.
