Gun Violence

We disagree. Minimum wage is an agreed to floor.
People working 2 jobs making $8/9.50 per hour don't need tax credits next April they need cash today.

You ideas are nice but ... but are not anywhere close to the everyday reality of low wage earners.

the refundable tax credits can go out monthly...it is a much better way to go

He has identified an aspect and offered no more solution than a scold.

Family values is a tad ambiguous I think we'd agree

Getting back to inner city gun violence. Do we know the individuals doing the shooting and do we know their family histories.

Or just taking for granted they are products of broken homes, or obese or play video games.

Or like I suspect posters are just glamming on to age old right wing tropes of inner city life.?

Since family life is so important to people that have probably never even eaten lunch in an inner city.
What besides shaking you finger and scolding do you see as a path to improving the situation. That would accomplish the desired effect within say a generation or 2 ?

I have been waiting for some concrete ideas on how to improve "family life" and "culture." Various posters claim those are important and I don't disagree. But they have been kind of vague about what to do about it.

I've never had trouble finding good food in the Bronx btw, even in the poor neighborhoods. The variety is amazing. There are the standby's: Dominican, Puerto Rican, soul. Those are all great in the Bronx. But I've also been able to find good Ghanaian and Senegalese. And of course Italian and various Balkan countries along Arthur Avenue. And the Irish and their pubs are still holding out in Woodlawn.

He has offered solutions like ending the drug war, expanding school choice, killing the minimum wage, as very easy and simple ways to improve the outcomes of poor families, which would reduce crime

We have been having this same conversation since Sandy Hook.

To my mind there are 3 principles involved in shooting someone.
A bullilt, a delivery mechanism and a shooter.

I do remember now aces recommendations and thank you for the reminder but how close are we to addressing the 3rd wheel( shooter) and how long will those initiatives take to have a meaningful effect.

You are talking about a major societal shift that will take to be generous a generation.

I am talking about something where we can see results within a year

Everything requires government involvement, that is a sophomoric argument not based on one iota of reality.

Says you!
You wear good shoes to walk around SF too.
Speaks volumes

I think there have always been and always will be shooters.
"
"Cain slew Abel"
Why allow it to as easy as point and shoot

Why not tax credits for verifiably peacefull shooting ?

Or purchase ammo on site, or gun clubs where the cominga and goings of weapons , ammo and shooters are tracked

Oh yeah, freedom!

Minimum wage is bad policy. There are much better ways, such as subsidizing work through the earned income tax credit or by increasing the child tax credit and making it refundable, to help poor people. The left uses minimum wage as a political football. It is popular so they have every incentive to keep pushing it. But it is bad policy.

^ This times infinity

based on ?
Not an economist but
There has to be a scale that has a floor ?

the refundable child tax credit can be set at whatever level the Congress wants to...it is kicking in this July I believe and i expect it will be made permanent...it gets phased out for families above a specified income level...we can increase it or cut it as we wish
