Heyman: Braves 'interested' in Cespedes

He isn't getting 5 years/100 million people

If Justin upton is saying he will take a 1 year deal cespedes is still in that type of area money wise

I don't see how

I'm trying to see how this makes sense, but if we decided to trade Ender I guess I could see the pitch being the fact that we let him play CF for half a season to help increase his value. We'd then flip him in July to a contender where he could showcase himself in the playoffs to further increase his value for next offseason which is light on impact free agent bats.

But that wouldn't make sense on his part. He did what he had to do last year to increase his value. by taking a one year deal would sift the entire risk over to him. What else does he have to prove other than continuation of his production from last year. If someone wants to see if he can put up those numbers again, then they will have to pay him.. That would be my stance as a player/agent...

I don't think the braves get another 30+ cuban. Too many bad memories.

I don't get why we say we don't have money. I know we want to spend big in Int market and returning guys make more every year. But we cleared whatever we paid for Arroyo and Miller.

Cespedes in CF looks like Gattis in LF to me....plus you are increasing his injury risk.

Cespedes in an asset. Every asset doesn't have to be be under 21. If you can get him to a discounted contract then get him. Maybe you can do it with incentives or out clauses. Maybe to save face you give him a contract with the ability to get the money he wants but he has to perform like last year. I don't see how Olivera would hold this up. 3B and 2B can be butchered just as well as LF if needed.

I get that, and that's been the stance they've taken the whole offseason, but there's nobody left with money that's going to give him the contract he wants. It's better for him to accept a one year deal and hit the market next year when it's a weak FA class than to settle for a contract with a much lower overall value.

If the Braves signed Cedpedes, he wouldn't see an inning in CF - unless Inciarte AND Bourn went down and they had to put someone out there until they could call Mallex up.

If any team perceived Yoenis as a legitimate everyday option in CF, he'd have been signed long ago.

If the Os are truly at 5 years/$75-$90 million there's absolutely no reason the Braves can't go there.

Whether he'd sign remains the question - not whether they can play on him.

I'm not saying I would be totally against it, but it would certainly mark a departure in the heretofore strategy that has been laid out. But, as someone said, an asset is an asset. But if we get Cespedes and keep Olivera and Garcia, I don't know how the clubhouse guy will keep pulled pork sandwiches in stock.

I'm still surprised the market hasn't popped more for either J. Upton or Cespedes.

If that's the range he's at right now, we better be right there.

Agreed. The Braves will never be able to find an .800+ OPS and 25 HR hitter for 5/90 without trading away significant assets. If that's truly the going rate for Cespedes the Braves need to make a play.

I'd be in on Cespedes for that. Hey, maybe Upton would take that.

If Olivera can't play third, none of this other **** works. Put him there and see how it goes.

It's been stated and reported numerous times Cespedes doesn't feel comfortable in RF... at all.

nope, haven't heard that.. NOPE.. no chance do I have Ender anywhere but center. Cespedes is not a good center fielder.. If Cespedes doesn't want to go to RF, then we will need to move HO somewhere..I would just like to get rid of 11 million lob throwing defense in RF if I could..
