Heyward ... Should we trade him now?

Yeah. Very short leash with him. Give him a month to see what he can do. If not just take it as a sunk cost and give someone else a shot.

Exactly. Let him know the score. No more sitting him a week, playing him a few days, sitting him. Give him a month. Pretty much every inning (with a day or two off). If his performance doesn't warrant more time, kick him to the curb and eat his contract and give the next guy his chance. Or just ****ing trade him already.

The Braves still had star players with those guys on the roster. Are most people assuming we let Heyward and Freeman walk while not spending their money on anyone else? By that time the only player making a lot of money will be BJ. The money will get spent somewhere.

No not at all. This is all related to the sake of Heyward and him being a cornerstone franchise must have. The Braves have NEVER paid 20 mil + for any player. I hope that they will eventually because like some have suggested, the market will demand it. I mean BJ Upton got the highest paid contract as a Brave in franchise history, gotta go no where but up from his standards right? I just have a hard picturing Heyward or Freeman in our immediate plans...especially with them declining extensions on two different occasions.

Yeah if they want to compete they are going to have to pay someone 20+ as that is where it's going. And Heyward will command that easily imo.

We've never paid someone 20+ mil the same way BJ Upton has the biggest deal in franchise history...it's just the economics. We will pay some player(s) 20 mil within the next couple seasons.

I don't think any team wants to eat a dime of his contract. He's toast.

We really need to see another month of Uggla to know he is done?

He had major corrective surgery. That's nothing small. I know sports wise when I went from no glasses to contacts it took a long time to adjust. I specifically remember struggling with rebounds in basketball and some catches in football. When you're seeing things you didn't see before you kind of have to slightly relearn.

Has nothing to do with that. He is still on the team. If we can save money on LaStella AND give him one last chance, why the hell not? If the team isn't willing to do that, why is he still a member of the Braves? If Wren REALLY can't trade him, release him. Some team will pick him up for the minimum (and save the Braves that much at least).

I expect Uggla to be our second baseman in 2014 and post an OPS of .700-.750 along with his usual sub-par defense.

And that isn't worth a million or two to some team out there? Hard to believe. I think Wren is being stubborn.

That would be worth more than a million or two. The lack of a deal to move Uggla could be interpreted as indicating the Braves have a more bullish projection for him than other teams.

They should've thought about that before ****ting all over him in public. That move didn't have the future in mind AT ALL. Just terrible.

BJ didn't get the highest contract in club history. He got the highest FA contract in club history. Chipper made substantially more.

Lol. No. STRuggla doesn't deserve a month and we shouldn't have to sit there and watch him slomber in misery for that month either. Dude has had 3 years to get it going and that's plenty.

Uggla should get to compete for the job in spring training. He should be given nothing, he needs to earn his playing time with results. I still think Wren should sell him to a team in Japan. Surely Uggla can still hit AA level talent. Right?

I tend to agree, but not necessarily for that reason.

If we give Uggla that month and he hits .300/.400/.500 with 15 HR then there's no way the front office or Fredi will allow him to be traded. Likewise, if he starts out hot like that and then goes .150/.250/.350 with 50 Ks in May his overall numbers will still look like an improvement over his last two years, and they'll keep running him out there for another month or two based on his outstanding April.

If you can't trade him then I guess you have to give him a chance to win the job in the spring, but if (when) he struggles he needs to be treated like a sunk cost and released to keep him from taking ABs away from other options.

Obviously he's going to compete for the job if he's on the team, and he should.
How often do vets get DFA'd during the season? If Uggla wins the job and continues to not hit, what happens? Will he be benched permanently? DFA'd?
It will be really interesting to see how the depth chart at 2B pans out.
I know some here like him, but I think Pena has the smallest shot at winning the job. My gut says they will go with Uggla to start, with Pastor the initial backup, but with La Stella as the real go-to option at some point for the rest of the year.
We'll see, but there's a real competition there. They could all not hit, but one of them could possibly emerge. I personally think La Stella has the best chance of emerging in to a good player this season.

There are three things that I've learned in my time in life. 1. Politicians are as crooked as a question mark. 2. Never trust a white guy with no side burns. And 3. Any organized sport or competition that involves STRuggla as an opponent isn't much of a competition at all. I don't see this clown even getting the starting nod out of spring training. Someone will need him and acquire him.

I really hope that is the case. I just see them giving him another shot. I hope I'm wrong, I think he's useless.
