Immigrants

You know what the buzz phrase is among those exploited tech workers.

It's "hook me up." Their model is to tolerate exploitation so they have a better seat at the table at the next startup. These are all consenting adults chasing their dreams.

To be clear, I’m in favor of allowing these kids to grind it out for less pay. I would support giving out less restrictive work visas at a higher rate and approve of Trump’s call to give a green card to any foreign student who graduates, though I’d favor a more immediate path to citizenship (in addition to other cases). The revolution ain’t happening any time soon, and businesses will find new and exciting ways to stretch their employees to the limit. I’m happy to encourage global competition for labor and to bring international talent to American companies. I just want all of those employees to be protected from billionaires getting massive amounts of their labor for free because they can monopolize their entire industry. Let the kids in their garage build the next big thing with as many hours as they need in exchange for genuine equity. But don’t let Mark Zuckerberg buy all the social media companies and then expect his team to work massive hours without overtime because he’s the only show in town.

That's a different matter. An issue of enforcing our antitrust laws.

I’ll concede I’m out of my element for the tech industry. Perhaps that is a field where workers just need to work the hours. There are certainly roles and income levels I support maintaining limited restrictions and understand there are workers that truly value the mission. I’m not anti-merit or hard work as some dogmatic rule. But this is a problem in every industry and only serves to enrich the owners, which just allows companies to maximize their profits by reducing payroll without reducing labor.

The model is to rent a mansion. Everyone lives and works there. Like a giant slumber party. Some of my daughter's classmates did this, including her college boyfriend. They did ok. Nothing spectacular.

Describe in detail how the inventions of Nikola Tesla changed the world
Answer
Nikola Tesla's inventions had profound impacts on technology and daily life:

Alternating Current (AC) Systems: Tesla's work on AC electricity allowed for efficient long-distance power transmission, making electricity widely accessible and powering modern electrification.
Tesla Coil: This invention demonstrated high-frequency electricity, influencing radio technology, wireless transmission, and even modern applications in entertainment and education.
AC Induction Motor: This motor revolutionized industrial machinery by providing a more efficient, reliable, and simpler alternative to DC motors, underpinning many modern devices.
Radio Control: Tesla's work in this area laid foundational concepts for remote control technology, influencing everything from toys to drones.
Early Forms of X-rays: Tesla contributed to the understanding and application of X-rays, impacting medical diagnostics.
Wireless Power Transmission: His vision and experiments in this field foreshadowed modern wireless charging and communication technologies.

These innovations collectively helped shape the electrical age, significantly advancing technology, industry, and the quality of life.

He replaced it with a sanitized version, but this was apparently the original. The "great replacement" conspiracy theory takes on new meaning.

Elon Musk: College is overrated.

Elon Musk: Don’t cry when I hire foreigners to do jobs at my companies because you’re not well-educated and hard-working enough.

Gotta love it.

I don't think anyone wants to get rid of H1B.

The problem is an oversaturation of foreign workers.

We can still get the best of the best without going overboard.

I think that's where most people are. There is obviously a range of views as to the right number. And some noisy people who say the right number is zero.

Get perhaps the top 1%-5% and stop the lottery system.

Stop this indentured servant type of system where the employee can basically control them. It's morally and economically wrong. Let them be free agents to the highest bidder (the highest offered salary) so their pay gets better.

Bannon: Every foreign student in America should have an exit visa stapled to their diploma, not a green card.

"Go home and make your own countries better."

There is something to be said for this. But it is not putting America first.

The main value of DEI is the "I" or inclusion part and the recognition of implicit bias as an important thing to overcome.

The "E" part is the most problematic because sometimes merit and equity come into conflict and that should be resolved in favor of merit. But emphasis on the E part means sometimes merit gets short shrift.

The "D" part is like motherhood and apple pie. No one is against diversity. But the evidence of its benefits depends on what kind of diversity you are talking about. There are high privileged dark-skinned people and highly underprivileged people with light skin. Using skin tone as a proxy for diversity leads to all sorts of problems.

The more you care about something, the more exclusive you make it.

Most important thing to me is my home... its the most exclusive place of access in my life.

On the flip side if I don't really value something, I'll make it available to everyone

I have seen a lot of variations of this, and it’s all just silly bull****. “The Left” didn’t make Trump’s anti-immigration supporters spend their Christmas looking up fun new Indian slurs or go on rants about the Great Replacement. This also wasn’t just a spirited debate showcasing democracy. Some of Trump’s most vocal online supporters just so happen to be staunchly anti-immigrant and for them any coalition with Elon and Vivek is a marriage of convenience. I suspect this term will see the billionaire tech bros kissing Trump’s ass but otherwise quickly distancing themselves from the MAGA trolls they cheered on when the posts were about black or Latino immigrants.
