I heard maybe 30 minutes at most of the trial but I decided to log in to say that I hope Nebraska/Louisiana GOP/Trumpers enjoy the fact that they just elected Cassidy and Sasse to a full term! And you can't do anything about it!

7 Republican Senators voted to convict and even some who didnt said Trump was guilty and they were voting no on a technicality. Trump is the only President to have his own party members vote to convict and it happened twice.
Hopefully they now go to the 14th amendment which zi believe Trump would need a 2/3rds majority of Congress to overturn.

2/3rds of the senate may not have voted to convict but if you add up the percent of the population they represent I bet its close to 2/3rds of the country.

I don't think they are that Machiavellian and don't think they are working toward that.
McConnell, however, would have been very much at home in the Florentine Republic. He is trying to walk a fine line. He is the Senate leader, but his faction is the minority faction within the party. The civil war in the Republikaner Party © is going to be a long grinding battle fought over hundreds of primary elections over the next few cycles. I wouldn't venture a prediction on how it plays out. It could go in any number of directions. What McConnell is doing is preserving his options and making sure he will have as much influence as possible over how things play out.

I'm not sure you understand Impeachment. Trump basically got a split decision the first time, the 2nd he lost by decision. While he was allowed to keep the fake gold belt, he lost his title.
