Inciarte's future

actually we've had some discussions about whether Inciarte has an ability to outperform his batted ball profile...his results this year suggests maybe not

I'm not sure a half season of relatively low BABIP outweighs four seasons of consistently high BABIP.

.....

Separate observation:

GaGirl makes an accurate point regarding his batted ball profile. He's pulling more balls and hitting more balls in the air generally, but especially vs LHP. And his BABIP has really crashed vs LHP. Causation or correlation? Sample size?

he is hitting the ball harder vs LHP, but he seem either to not have enough power from that side for it play or he's been super unlucky about where those hard hit balls are hit.

....

Separate observation:

Inciarte's history is absolutely wearing out RHP in the second half, though I'm not sure I really believe in splits like that. He has no such consistent history vs LHP.

I've posted this several time already but...

Inciarte displayed all of the 3 main factors in a guy sustaining "luck" when comparing his xwOBA to his actual wOBA:

1. Batting LHed
2. Above average speed
3. Spraying the ball around

Simply put, he stopped spraying the ball around and pulled the ball too much. It looks like he has largely corrected that issue, so now he can go back to being "lucky".

Of course, "lucky" for Inciarte translates to a league average hitter, while "unlucky" translates to a terrible hitter. However, an average hitter with elite defense in CF is very valuable. He just needs to be batting at the bottom of the lineup...forever.

While I'm talking about lineup construction, Acuna and Markakis need to be switched as well.

Unfortunately Snitker probably looks at doing all of the little things correctly to get the run is as much more valuable than possibly sacrificing way more strikeouts in the cleanup spot and they're deathly afraid of seeing Freeman possibly not see a strike ever again. (FWIW: I'd still pitch around Freeman all day and night even with Markakis' season, if you're in a period where guys ahead of him aren't doing very well, it's not going to hurt you to see Markakis most likely single behind him, if there's 2 out)

(Note: I'm for Nick Markakis at leadoff, but at this point, it ain't happening)

Even with his struggles this year Ender will still be over a two war player this year and after this year he is only owed around 24 million over the next 3 years. The team has needs but replacing Ender is way down the list.

Right next to replacing Dansby.

As long as the top half is some form of Markakis, Freeman, Albies and Acuna, with whoever is catching batting 5th, there really isn’t much to complain about.

Even if batting Markakis leadoff is the “right” move, it isn’t going to make a noticeable difference long term.

I really don't get that one. He's young, and an elite defensive shortstop with acceptable offensive numbers. Bury these 2 in the last 3 spots of the lineup and enjoy it. If there's 3 positions you can sacrifice offensive production, they're C, SS, and 2B or CF. With Ozzie doing well, then CF can be bumped down.

Reality is that if Freeman is healthy, the Braves have little to worry about offensively. They'll have to replace OF production they lose from Markakis, but that's it. And honestly that could easily come via Riley going to 3B and Camargo platooning with someone in LF and it could be done cheaply via Daniel Murphy. Or if he is willing to take a sweetheart deal, Markakis. Put them in LF and we shouldn't have a ton to worry about offensively if healthy aside from some of our kids having down years here and there.

Read the thread. We are saying the same thing. Replacing Ender or Dansby is pretty far down the list of changes that need to be made.

You can't expect zito to read

Psh I don't have time to read. Too busy distracting myself with other ****. If I read everything on this board I wouldn't have time to watch youtube videos of old people complaining about music these days.

Seems like they are speeding Pache through. I give him 2019 and they will trade him most likely. Pache should be ready in 2020.
