I haven't seen this on the board yet. Notice that they have given up on Dylan Manwaring as a hitter and have him in instructs as a pitcher.

Also, Derian Cruz is in instructs. I don't know how common it is to bring newly signed international guys who are 16 to instructs. Christian Pache is there as well. Randy Ventura at instructs.

I don't know how common it is either, but I think it's a strong indication that those two will be starting their pro careers in the GCL.

I wonder if they move Didder back to the IF. Lots of OFs down there.

I wonder if the absence of Josh Graham and Dilmer Mejia means they are out due to some sort of long-term injury. Both were shut down before the end of the minor league season. Guardado was shut down after just one appearance but is on the instructs roster. Bird was also shut down but is on the roster.

I wonder the same thing about Graham. You think this organization would learn. They take a guy who hasn't been a full-time pitcher in Graham and do a "Damn the torpedoes! Full speed ahead!"

I think in the case of Mejia, he's probably reached an innings limit. Braves have not had much luck with keeping smallish LHPs healthy.

Things that struck me:

Dustin Peterson is now listed among the outfielders...

Morales, after his insane final week, is among the catchers.

Randy Ventura is here at age 18. Cannot wait to hear about his speed and arm firsthand.

Also GCL HR champ Wilson, buzzworthy Acuna and Baez, even Braxton D. are among the OF. Lots of upside there.

Finally getting Herbert and Allard together after Herbert's knee injury in his second game.

Between instructional news and the AFL, I declare the 2016 season to be beginning; to hell with 2015.

Dustin Peterson played OF all season in Carolina.

Since Herbert didn't get much time in the GCL this year, I wonder if they will push him to Rome to be with Allard as they progress, or will they start him out at Danville with Morales going to Rome?

It's interesting. The catching pecking order from top down appears to be:

AAA -- Chris O'Dowd/Veteran Minor Leaguer
AA -- Joseph Odom/Sal Giardina
A+ -- Jose Briceno (repeating)/Bryan De La Rosa
A- -- Tanner Murphy (repeating)/Jonathan Morales/Trey Keegan
Rookie -- Lucas Herbert/Collin Yelich

Another thing, I would absolutely love to live around the area where they have their instructional league. That would be a blast to attend if they allowed it.

Honestly think Morales bypassed Murphy at the end of the season.

I think the thing with Morales is that he wasn't a full-time catcher in JC ball and the 11 passed balls he had in the GCL kind of stick out like a sore thumb. His bat may carry him, but it appears he has work to do behind the plate.

Murphy ranks as one of my top disappointments in the system in 2015. Just didn't do it this year.

Curious to see where all the catchers end up after next year's spring training.

Yeah. The kid was getting some attention as well going into the season. Eddie Perez was raving about his defense. http://m.mlb.com/news/article/11081...ect-tanner-murphy-drawing-high-praise-in-camp

Gotta admit, I didn't really care for anything that I saw the times that I did. I'm sure he has tools that need developing, but he was just "meh" to me. Pena was equally terrible.

I expect to hear that the catching pecking order will be Herbert, then everybody else.
